Hi All,
Sorry for yet another question on this topic but I have read the forum extensively and can't find a specific answer(s)!

I want to hard wire a dashcam to my Taycan 4S (Dec 2021). I have read 100's of posts regarding 12V battery issues, especially with parking mode activated on the dash cam so decided to call Porsche for their comments.

They weren't particularly helpful but the person i spoke with told me that anything hard wired to the fuse board would require reprogramming of the car as the load had changed - she actually reckoned there was one in for that exact reason as she spoke.

I found this hard to believe and see know mention anywhere on the net showing examples of this. So my questions:

Anyone ever heard of a requirement to re-program?! Or put another way, has anyone ever fitted one and caused issues with the PCM?
Have people installed a dash cam with park mode with no issues? (i am presuming a massive yes!)
What precautions should be taken to ensure no flat battery? Low voltage detection I presume? I notice that Porsche dashcams are shut off when the battery hits 13V - finding a controller to do this is proving difficult - most are 12.5V max with the majority below 12V.
Which specific fuse have people tapped? I guess something "none critical"

I am seriously considering a simple wire to an ACC outlet and foregoing the park monitoring to be safe!

Thanks all

Sounds like BS. That would mean anytime you used the cigarette lighter port for a tire inflator or to charge your computer, the computer would need to be reprogrammed.

Exactly what I was going to say...a bunch of BS. I never even install a backup battery for it, and the 12V battery is not affected. The charge is always at 13.5V. The blackvue camera has a configurable settings for when to shut off the camera if the voltage falls below a certain level. Do a search on here for the fuse to use. I installed mine years ago so have already forgotten which.

Thanks for your thoughts, both. By any chance, do you know the value of the low voltage cut off that you are using?

Cosigning on the BS. I have the FitcamX hard wired through the mirror and it will turn on and record for intervals while the car is off. Never had a problem. Matter of fact I just got back from an 8-day trip out of the country and my 12v battery was perfectly fine and I have days worth recording on my car. Its currently at the dealership now getting a recall done and I left it on since they put the car in Privacy mode when they have it :).

How do you like the FitcamX?
Any issues?
What made you decide to go with the FitcamX?
Are you using front cam only or did you go with dual? My back window is 5% tint, not sure the camera will be worthwhile for that. Thoughts?

I've read good and bad reviews. I like how clean the install is but heard their customer support is lacking so I'm also considering the blackvue.

Thanks

I use a front only. Main reason for buying it was it's pretty much impossible to see from outside. My concern has always been someone breaking into car to steal a more obvious dash cam.

Picture quality is fine, Linking via iPhone to watch back doesn't really work - conflicts with CarPlay, though i solved this by doing it via my iPad instead. I only want it incase of an accident, maybe for those who like to view back regularly then something more user friendly or higher res maybe?

Customer support was fine. They sent me a different youtube link to a very nice man in the cotswolds doing an install on his range rover, when i was doing mine. Alas no such nice gentleman for the porsche, so just their not very good install video with bits missing and someone with considerably smaller fingers than mine. I still got it done though.

If you want to use parking mode you may want to consider getting a dash cam battery pack.
https://www.blackboxmycar.com/collections/battery-packs

I've used ones from Cellink and Blackvue giving me hours of parking mode capability and never had an issue with the camera's affecting my vehicle's 12V.

Thanks all. After speaking with the dashcam manufacturer about my concern they are sending a 'special' low voltage adjustable hardwire kit. Looks like it is selectable from 13.5V all the way down to 11V in 0.1V increments.
Looking at the discharge properties of the LiFePO4 battery, at 13V it is 70% discharged already (30% charge left). Therefore this seems like a sensible place to start (by the time it gets to 12.9V it is only 20% charged and then it just falls off a cliff!)
Will let you know how I get on.

Is the Blackvue app as bad as the Google Play reviews indicate ?
It is extremely non-intuitive. I don't connect to the camera until I need to review a footage, and it could be months in between and every time I had difficulty getting it connected. Sometimes it doesn't show up in the WiFi list to connect even after pressing the button on the camera and the voice says "WiFi is on". However, once the camera is connected, everything works well. The desktop app woks well, however, so you can just pop the SD card out and insert it into your laptop.
