I'm in the UK and have just had my charger fitted. Its the OHME Home Pro.

I am on the British gas ev tariff where I get cheap leccy between 12am and 5am. Here's what I want to do:

  1. Get home from work and plug the car in.
  2. The charger will start magically at 12am and charge to a max of 85%
    • If 5am arrives and I have not got 85% it will stop
    • If I get to 85% before 5am it will also stop.
I will generally use less in a day than I can charge in the five hour window so if I do a long run I can top it back up to 85% over a number of nights within my cheap charge period.

What is the best way of achieving this? I cant seem to find a simple 'profile' settings to do this in the app?

Can I set 'minimum charge' to 85% and preferred charging period to 00:00 / 05:00? Or as this is a minimum it will continue to charge past 5am to get to 85%?

Many thanks for any input?

Many thanks @n3ophyte.

So im telling it to only charge immediately if its below 25% and then when it hits midnight it will charge up to 85% (or as close as possible) then stop as it will be 'ready' for 5am.

I like it.

I assume that even if i cant achieve the 85% in the five hour period It will still stop at 5am?

Cheers

Correct ?

The above works for me with with my Zappi charger. Just make sure there are no schedules set in your Ohme charger and that it is in “dumb / always on” mode.

should do what you want.
The timer will do the same thing by itself. The profile is not doing anything in this setup.

Then what would prevent the car charging at peak rate outside the 00:00 - 05:00 window?

It’s not prevented now. Those are “preferred” times. They are not strictly enforced. The timer will charge outside of them if it needs to based on starting charge, available time to departure, available power, and target charge.

Preferred times could help if the departure time was different, like 9am. Then it would try to use the preferred times to reach the charge, but it would still charge outside of those times if it needed to based on the timer’s needs.

Fair enough ?

I guess I’ve never run my battery low enough to see it charge outside of my 6 hour cheap-rate window.

Interesting - so that assumes that the car knows what charge rate it will receive? This would then allow it to calculate the time needed to get to 85%?

I would have thought, for example if i was at 26% charge it would get to 12:00 start charging and then realise it was only getting 7kw and simply stop at the departure time of 5?

I'm starting to think that this may be easier to control with my wall box. I an set it to only charge at the cheap times and then have my car set to charge on demand.
