Can someone decode this map for me please?

You suggest red means out of service, but it shows 36 stations at a big mall near us and its in a red box. Surely 36 stations are not out of service. I am assuming ---/36 in red means, basically, "we have no f*cking clue how many may or may not work, you are basically on your own." Would that be the proper interpretation? I am glad I charge virtually always at home!

I did actually mention that red might also indicate occupied (see comments at start and end) as when you look at the most detailed descriptions of individual chargers in the app, ones that are occupied are written as such in red text - might be just a coincidence not sure. Alternately that 36unit station is totally offline - seems like a huge station so a bit suspicious actually as to what the location has w.r.t. chargers! Have you visited that loc?

I know the location but have not seen that many chargers in one place. Honestly, this is exhausting to get a handle on. But I wanted an EV! I've only tried charging on the road one time and it did not go well, ended up calling EA and it was not at all straightforward to resolve.

Yep I am actually very familiar with this area too (not as an EV owner but I taught geology classes for Stanford and Shell along the coastline here annually over last 20 years and have also worked with Scripps etc).

Plugshare only shows primarily 8kW chargers and no location on its own seems tp have more than 8 - usual just 1 to 3 - so not quite understanding the 46 no., unless it is for some reason 'lumping', weird (poss. lumping al the university campus units?)! Need to check for an EA station but not seeing one in this exact loc.

I would suggest looking for other EA stations in your greater area and having another go esp with PnC - your initial bad experience might (I hope!) be coloring your perspective here, so fingers crossed you get a great result at the next station you use.

I'm still torn between Siri & Apple Maps (dependable - works most every time) and Hey Porsche/PCM (she just doesn't seem to "get me" - but when it works its more feature rich).

In that vein, I have this map which I don't get. There are colors, boxes and ratios that make no sense to me. On my Charging App there are no EV stations in these spots. I certainly wouldn't care about gas stations. DC vs HPC? I didn't get the memo about all this. Maybe there are stations there and I need to look harder.

I use Plugshare quite a bit when I travel- its my go to app. Why- because I can look at the EA or other stations and identify prior if I should go to that station or pick another one based upon user experiences/reviews.

I only use the Nav and Porsche Charging Planner (PIRM too) which until last weekend did not show many EVSEs in my locale THEN my life changed and an update pulled down 99% of all EVSEs which is just marvellous.

It's taken 16 months for this data to appear (for whatever reason) but really even less reason now to use another external app. My Porsche App is still shite and doesn't list what Nav does (left hand / right hand issues continue) and so I don't use it either.

In short your Nav may well get updates en masse shortly to assist with EVSE searching and reduce the tendancy to juggle other external apps that have no integration with Porsche Charging Planner.

I was just suggesting use of the (Porsche NA) Charging App instead of the MyPorsche app as I thought you mentioned earlier that using the latter was causing issues with or exacerbating your alarm issues?

PlugShare is just an app that can scan for all EV charging stations in any area in the US vs just EA stations alone i.e. not what you'd use to initiate a charging session as such. If the Charging App is not causing any direct issues with your car's functions then you might be good to go in respect this as a primary app for charging related activity.

I am recently early retired so actually not in San Diego area nearly as much any more - my sister does still live there though and I visit occasionally

Sorry I should have been more specific- I use plugshare to complement the porsche mapping/charging apps.. it helps to identify which EA station (or non EA station) to use on my trip. I don't use it to enable charging etc...

Yes! Status unmonitored/status not available.

Ironically, the original screenshot you posted has all the answers you need. If you examine the availability vs installed numbers you can see how that relates to the box color. The charger category is indicated in the charger icon and doesn't relate to the box color. Dashes mean the station is not reporting. That's what I see anyway.

I use the PCM NAV and EA app when looking for stations. Since I want to take advantage of EA and their 350kW - plus the free sessions. When I don't need EA and just a charger to plug in, I use Plugshare - which you can filter out to exactly what stations you're looking for.

During road trips, I would use all 3 different platforms, just to plan it a little better. As in, sometimes, I will skip a station if there's another one 10 or 15 miles further from the recommended ones, of I would use an earlier stop if one of the apps is saying a station is having issues. Since owning a Taycan, I've pickup the habit of not trusting if a EA station is available. Even ones marked working, sometimes will error out (I have to help a lady in an I-Pace once when a perfectly good station was not working for her, but a Mustang mach-E just finished charging, I gave her my charging station since I have enough juice to go to the next one).

Hate to say this, but I'm spoiled by the Musk network. Never to do some much planning or thoughts into charging when traveling.

My understanding after flicking between the Porsche app and Zap-Map is the numbers are the number of connections . So the Porsche app would say 6/6 whereas Zap-Map would say 2 devices each device has 3 connections. All being available. So a bit misleading. You might think there are 6 stations/charge points. When there’s actually 2. Shame none of this is in the handbook.
