Charging seems very slow.

Hi all, I've just joined the forum.
I took delivery of a 2023 Taycan 4S Sport turismo with a Performance plus battery.
I'm using a 7KW charger at my office , but the car only seems to be charging at 4.2 kw or 0.2miles / minute !!
We have another fully electric car, BMW IX3 and that's charging at 0.33 miles / minute. So 40% faster than the Taycan.
Any suggestions please as to how to improve it on the existing 7KW charger ?

That's strange, I am waiting for a call back form my local Porsche dealer where I bought the car. My car is an ex demonstrator with 4800 mile on it. New in July 2023.

I also use a 7 kW 32A wall charger at home and I haven’t noticed this behavior : mine charges at 6.7-6.8 kW which is equal to our other EV.
The limitation could come from your cable not supporting 32A.

This is what has just been posted against my thread for the same issue -

" When the charge rate on my 22 4S suddenly dropped by more than 50% on my home EVSE (and others I tried), dealer service found that the car's on-board charger needed to be replaced. Replacing on-board charger fixed it. "

Be careful comparing two different cars using the .2miles/minute vs. .3 miles/minute display. Each car has a different size battery, and has a different level of driving efficiency. Apples to oranges. If car A has a battery that is double the capacity of car B…you get the point. OR if car B has double the MPGe…. Both examples have too many variables.

What you should be looking at is KW. On a 7KW charger you should see 6KW ish on the Taycan’s display.

Generally speaking, Level 2 chargers, such as the one you’re using are very stable and will deliver the same power every time. I cannot explain why it is only showing 4.6KW. I would check to see what KW the BMW is receiving.

Also, which “Porsche cable” are you using. If It’s the mobile charger plus, ensure it’s at 100% and not at 50%.

you really need to try a different 7kw evse. That will give you a much better indication if it's the evse or the car.

Yes but which one and what EVSE are you using? Does sound like part of the charging ecosystem is 16A which would half your throughput to around 4kW.
