My Taycan Turbo made it to Davisville 6/30, where it sat until it was finally delivered to my dealer on Saturday 7/18. The Tech that does Taycans happened to be off Saturday (poor guys have to work some Saturdays) so it was agreed the car would be ready for delivery around noon on Monday. Unfortunately when the Tech connected his computer to the car Monday morning he found a steering sensor fault. This sensor apparently senses if your hands are on the wheel or not. The problem is the ribbon cable that is soldered to the circuit board was off, as in unsoldered! Today PCNA approved replacement of the steering wheel assembly and one was ordered. I do not know if one is available in the US or if it is coming from Germany. My money says the latter. The dealer, the Tech at the dealer as well as the sales manager and sales advisor have all been super as we deal with this, as has been PCNA. My question however is how could this car ever get through Porsche’s quality check before it left the factory? Surely the sensor fault would have shown up. This one is a puzzler.

I realize this won't make you feel any better, but it's not unusual for minor issues like this to happen. Port or pre delivery "repairs" to minor issues are common and usually not even mentioned to the customer.

It sucks that your car has been delayed so much. Has your dealership or PCNA offered you any sort of compensation?

Too bad they couldn’t have left it disconnected to avoid the nagging when your hands aren’t on the wheel completely during InnoDrive!!

but yeah, sucks that your delivery experience has been spoiled after everything you went through to get here.

Hope they get it resolved quickly.

They have not offered nor have I asked. At this point I’d just like to have a drive-able car. In the meantime I own zero cars, I've been driving a loaner Panamera for at least a month and a half. So I’m not paying taxes, insurance, etc., only gasoline which at today’s prices is not much. I’m sure the dealer is not too happy either, as they want my money, which they won’t get until Porsche supplies a car.

My gripe is surely this should have been caught post production, well before it ever got to the delivery stage.

I’m with you on the nagging! Wish we could leave that turned off.

It will get resolved soon enough, unless the new wheel delivery goes on a while. And as good as everyone has been, it doesn’t stop that P-O-ed feeling. Should not have happened.

my car was delivered with heavy scratches on the pano-glass-roof induced presumably by transportation provider - 3 other Taycan's on the same truck had similar damage

Porsche dealer is working the problem and I have full confidence Porsche will eventually fix the problem -but I am a bit bummed that my brand new Taycan will have to be torn apart to install a new roof which is a major structural element in the vehicle…{sigh}

Sorry to hear of the issues @flickroll. Didn't you car have some port quality issues? Perhaps this is related and it wasn't corrected at port and was left for the dealer? Hope it all gets resolved soon.

My car was delayed a week for ‘quality action’, and I’ll never know what that was about. At least one other forum member’s car on the same boat also went into ‘quality action’. The car appears undamaged so the dealer was thinking it was a software issue. But you are correct, it could be related. I still have not heard anything about parts availability.

My question however is how could this car ever get through Porsche’s quality check before it left the factory? Surely the sensor fault would have shown up.
That's how I felt about my own two major issues: my car wouldn't charge on 800V chargers at all, and there's an intermittent-but-often problem where the chassis can't figure out whether it has lowered (or how far it's lowered) and throws a chassis error.

The former was fixed by completely replacing the HV Booster (so it was defective out of the gate) and the latter remains without a fix (they're still researching, and it may be a software related issue...but if so, I don't quite understand why no one else on the forum is seeing it).

Anyway, first-year teething issues--it's not a car with a 10-year build history like the Panamera. The steering wheel is likely tested by the subcontrator who makes it, and not re-tested. As the initial problems come in, I'm sure they're in a "constant improvement" setup where new tests are implemented depending on what's failing in the field...

I'm really curious as to what the heck was done to cause that kind of damage... it's like someone put their pet rock on top for the truck journey.

theory is something (probably another car) was rubbing on the top of the glass during the trucking form Houston…but I doubt we'll ever know - as I said mine was one of 3 cars with similar damage at delivery.

I don't think I'd want to accept delivery of that car, at least without non-trivial compensation. That top glass is structural, and it's put there by a robot.

Couldn't agree more. I just wouldn't accept it in that state daveo4EV. It is not like it is just a minor problem which can be fixed without any major undertaking. I hope you end up with a satisfactory outcome.

+1. I’d have a hard time accepting that vehicle without a kickback of some sort. My problem seems trivial in comparison.

Speaking of which, I went to the dealer today and the steering wheel assembly is coming from Germany with no eta. Attached is a picture of the offending part, the little black box, for which they are going to replace the entire steering wheel for Lord knows how much $$. The right hand connector (ivory colored with no cable attached) in the box is loose and is not attached to the circuit board. I could fix it in 15 minutes, but of course that is not an option.
