I normally charge to 85%, but went to 100% for a recent trip to the airport ~2 hours away. Got my best range number yet on my 2021 Taycan RWD - 354 miles!

I’m so jealous! I have the original battery so I get 225 miles max. I wish I had the bigger battery but since I only use it local, around town I really don’t need more than 200 miles. My next Porsche EV will need to have at least 400 miles so I can use it on longer trips reserved for my other ICE vehicles.

Can you elaborate on new gen battery? Do they really exchange the battery with the newer one?

Beware that the high figures might be due to reset statistics, curious to know if you see actual real life improvement.

Supposably got the J1.2 in my car per the dealer. I have had it for a month now and it has only gone up since I’ve gotten it. I have taken the miles driven and checked it versus percentage used and it adds up to the same. I also drive more highway now then I did in the past so so far I’m pretty impressed.

My car's range is not even remotely accurate. On this charge, to 80%, the car showed 220 mile range.

It's now down to 25% showing 63 miles range (suggesting 252 mile range) but the car has only traveled 105 miles. If I had 63 miles left then my range was only 168 miles vs the indicated 220 miles.

I'm showing 2.6 miles/kWh on this charge.

Burning 55% of the charge to cover 105 miles suggests a range of 190 miles.

Big battery, 10K miles, 21 4S with 21" wheels. Drive like grandpa in range or normal mode 99% of the time.

I see a lot of threads about amazing range; I don't get it...

This is why it's best to stop obsession about range guesstimates. Just look at %, the way you do with a phone (which doesn't try to guess battery life in hours, because that would be dumb).

Percent is always completely accurate. And if on a long road trip do a plan first then stop as planned or when it gets empty.

For those looking to optimize their battery health and range, here are a couple of suggestions --
  • ARB6 Update -- I've noticed a large improvement in range since this update. I'm now at 3.2-4 miles/kW, and I used to be a tad under 3 miles/kW.
  • Battery Cell Balancing -- Follow the steps recommended by @Vim Schrotnock at this post.
This is an EV after all, so maximizing range just makes sense, although I agree with others that the true advantage of the Taycan is how well it drives. Total game changer for me after years in a Lexus.

I always thought this estimate reflects recent efficiency.

I typically don't look at overall range but more at the mi/kwh figure. For a j1.1 PB+ car, anything above 2.9 mi/kwh is materially above published estimates. On recent road trips, I was able to consistently achieve 2.8 - 3.2 mi/kwh (243 - 268 implied miles).

Percentage seems more reliable than a range guesstimate because it's a measurement (well, a heuristic derived from some measurements if we're being completely honest), not a prediction. That said, the translation of X percent of battery to Y miles/km driven may not be linear. I've had drives where it sure seems like I got more range from the first 30% of the battery than the next 30%. Curious if other folks have noticed the same. (This is J1.2.)
