Range between the various years of Taycan

According to my detailed in-person conversation with a high level Porsche battery technician, there has been no hardware changes to the Taycan battery or chemistry, and we won't see any in the current models for 5-10 years. Of course there will be software changes that might optimize range. This statement doesn't include of course, any new versions of the Taycan that people are talking about with three motors or 1000+ HP.

Per TSB new battery chemistry in Taycan HV batteries rolled out in 2021.

Well, that doesn't give me a lot of confidence in what the tech told me. I've attached the Technical Bulletin to my latest communication. Does anyone know WHY they changed the battery chemistry? I am not happy.

OK, according to the Battery Technical specialist that I communicated with, the actual cell chemistry is identical. The 'pouch' containing the battery was modified to make the pouch walls more 'robust'. According to this individual, there is no change whatsoever in the actual battery performance, range, total capacity, etc. My guess is that the insulating capacity of the pouch walls has been improved, and possibly this is the reason for my problems, and others who purchased 2020 cars. It remains to be seen how this battery will compare to what I had previously - regularly getting 230+mi on 85% charge. Evidently, the cell 'balancing will take some time, and the SOH of the battery has increased from the initial 90% to 92.6%, and he expects it to continue to improve. I'll post data when I pickup the car tomorrow, and I'll keep everyone posted...

So your source says the Porsche TSB, which repeatedly uses the term "modified battery chemistry", is wrong.

The TSB indicates that if HV batteries in 2020 Taycans need to be replaced, new batteries from model year 2021 onward with the modified battery chemistry should be used for the replacements, and it gives instructions as how to "code" the car for the replacement battery.

It remains to be seen how this battery will compare to what I had previously - regularly getting 230+mi on 85% charge.

You should be driving very chill to get that range out of a Turbo S in Ohio.
