Found these photos in the garage.
In 2007 I was looking for a 2 seat track toy before kids!
went for a test drive in a Lotus Exig
Dick Lovett Swindon.
I was feeling patriotic.

Before you ask…
The salesman was driving!
5 mins away from dealer.
Light rain, greasy road.
He lost the back end round left hand kink.
Overcorrected and we headed sideways with me looking out of passenger side window in direction of travel at 50 mph.
My memory then blacked out and has remained like that ever since.

We flew over the hedge (the road
is on the other side!) and landed in the field. The roof was torn off and my head was in the nicely ploughed , straight furrow you can see.
That’s when my memory comes back hanging upside down.
I had mud in my hair. The salesman had glass in his hair from the # rear view mirror.
No other injuries. Got the all clear from the hospital.
I didn’t buy the Lotus!
Went back to Dick Lovett next day and got my name down for a 997 GT3 with an extra complimentary track day with Porsche.
Thought I needed a bit more metal around me, traction control AND a roll cage.

Not clear how you survived that tbh. But glad you did.

A florescent lime green one past me on the M25 today. Had to do the acceleration thing to make a pointless point. Probably weighed less than my Taycan's battery.

I wish I had a better pic, but this is all I have (mobile phone in ‘06).

2005 Lotus Elise.
It started its day with a top and side windows.
I was fortunate to land right-side-up.

Yeah, that salesman had a bad day.

Everyone says that they want all of these cars without assistance systems and nannies. Then, many of them learn that they don't actually know what they're doing -- they don't have the skills to truly operate these cars in the raw. A lot of supercars have been binned by people who turn off stability and traction control.

It's those same assistance systems and nannies that make 500+HP cars tame enough for mere mortals.

I grew up riding motorcycles and dirtbikes in the snow. I've slid around bikes and cars. I leave the nannies on, because there's nothing macho about climbing out of your wrecked car in a ditch.

All those nanny aids do is ensure when the idiot behind the wheel has his/her moment, it's much bigger. Often for people around them.

I remember a tool passing me on the M3 in seriously torrential rain. Must have been doing 80-90mph in conditions where 40-50mph was pushing it (I was in an Aston V8).

About a mile up the road there was debris everywhere and he was still bouncing off the central reservation. Standing water is highly unforgiving.

(On the Lotus, how did you get out? Looks like you were hidden from the road??).
