  • built in nav is very usable, and the only way you get battery @ destination estimates and pre-conditioning for fast charging - it works well enough that you can use it when necessary - and CarPlay/android auto when battery estimate or pre-conditioning doesn't matter
Yes, but it is sooo ugly as an interface compared to Apple Maps...

agreed - but I suffer with it for the factual "data" it provides:
  • estimated battery % @ destination
  • pre-conditioning the main battery when driving to a fast charger
most of the time range doesn't matter - so you don't need to use the Porsche Nav - I use AppleMaps/Waze/GoogleMaps via car-play as trip computer/driving-instructions

Estimated battery % is available through Apple Maps, though (you have to pair your My Porsche app with the PCM)
As for pre-conditioning the battery, you are right.

not on all Porsche EV's it's not…and I found the pairing too fragile with me often getting into the vehicle and the porsche->applemaps pairing 'broken" requiring it to be reset up.

Mine is MY2022 and it works ok. Iwould love that pre-conditioning works as well.

no support in macan EV - so not an option - and according to birdie's I personally know pre-conditioning support is blocked by Porsche and would require Porsche to give Apple (and others) access…

Thank you for the answers!

I know its sounds so stupid but I little afraid that I will regret the the Taycan because of every day use (comfort things like phone open etc) and cabin storage space / practicality comparing to my Tesla. I know its a better car in almost every way, and a better car than 99% of the cars exist, but I afraid because of the things mentiond above, on the end of the day it will be my every day car but for a tons of money. Please somebody tell me that Im just overthinking it :D
You're overthinking!

My ex-husband has owned a Tesla and was the one that told me to buy the Taycan. Overall, it is a far superior car. I have a CT4 and while it's not as fast off the line, it is a much better, more reactive driving experience, particularly at high speeds.

It is not, a software company. Expect the software to be about 5 years behind the Tesla.

Specific answers...

I have an Android, and noticed that Google maps is far superior with regard to traffic the Porsche nav. In fact, I really wish they would just license Google maps. I like to use the PCM because of pre-conditioning, but also because I find the heads up displays excellent and very helpful, particularly at night.

You can keep your phone in a cup holder, like I do, there's a storage bin underneath the dash, or, annoyingly, you can keep it in the center console and recharge it. I'll often keep it in my purse, next to me on the seat.

I have a charger cable, that is perpetually plugged into the center console container and I find I can keep The container closed while recharging my phone when it's in the cup holder.

Getting my new Taycan GTS soon and I would like to have some questions:

- In few years old reviews of the Taycan I saw that driving mode settings are resets after you "restart" the car. This issue is still exists, even in the facelift model or its already solved and its saving your settings for all driving modes e.g. normal susspension at Sport mode or folding down mirrors when going backwards, etc ?

- Is the built in navigation usable enough with real time traffic infos or need to use a navigition with carplay?

- Coming from Tesla and have no idea where the fck will I put my phone, is there any good mount for it?

Thank you for your answers!
I keep my phone in the front cupholder, I don’t use the charger under the armrest because it is a hassle getting it in.
Still miss the Tesla software that in my 2021 Plaid was a century ahead of my 2025 Turbo GT.
Miss the convenience, ease of use of cameras, Sentry System etc.
Plaid was quicker midrange and you could have full power available always, not for 10 seconds and only in the launch mode.
I don’t miss the brakes though…..

Navigation:
The onboard nav is decent, but not great - the visuals and routes are a bit meh. I end up using CarPlay for navigation most of the time, switching to the onboard navigation for road trips to get battery pre-conditioning, which is quite important with the first generation Taycan, far less so with the second generation.

Hi Dexty, I lose my keys at times, but keep up with my phone. Since we have to carry the fob, I just got the smallest AirTag keychain so I can find my keys when I lose them ;-)

It doesn't help the function, but gives me some grace when I lose the key.

Swapped my Tesla Model S last January for a MY25 Taycan ST, and I haven’t regretted it for a single day. In my opinion, the navigation works well—almost comparable to the Model S. Cabin storage space is even better than in the Model S (I’m not sure how it compares to the Model 3 or Model Y).

I had installed the optional phone charger in the Model S (MY2019 Raven), but I didn’t really need it during most of my trips and commutes. If I need to charge my iPhone, I just use the charger in the armrest (which is a bit of a hassle).

Besides the driving experience, the seats in the Taycan (I have the 14-way comfort seats) are so much better than those in the Model S. On the other hand, rear passenger space and trunk capacity are more limited compared to the Model S.

If you’re planning to make long trips, the Taycan is excellent. On my annual trip to the Italian Alps, the Model S required about 1 hour and 45 minutes of charging, whereas the Taycan only needs 45 minutes for the same journey.

I recently switched from a Tesla Model 3 Performance to a 2021 Taycan 4S. Agree with almost all the posts in this thread. For me, Apple Maps reports accurate battery level and has been a very stable connection. In fact, having CarPlay again is a big plus for me and is one of the biggest things I missed during my time with the Tesla. For now, I've got my phone in the cupholder but will eventually add one of the ProClip mounts. The Tesla had equally bad phone holder options, in my opinion. A couple more comparisons:

1. Turn radius: Taycan is much longer but the turning radius is MUCH tighter, which has been a big plus for me because I live in the city and often benefit from this.

2. Parking cameras: Tesla's rear view camera is WAY better in almost every way. But Taycan offers overhead view and the front camera. Plus the side cameras that aim down at the curb. I think it's a bit of a tie, but I like the coverage Taycan offers, even if resolution is much lower.

3. Comfort and Range: I drove my Tesla almost 500 miles to trade it for my Taycan. And drove the Porsche the same distance home. The Tesla was very uncomfortable after driving for 2.5 hours. No issues at all with comfort in the Taycan. Both cars required two charging stops over the same distance. The difference? I spent a combined 1 hour and 14 minutes charging the Tesla. The Taycan only required 45 minutes. The difference in total charging time was quite surprising to me, and I know it will vary based on how many other cars are charging, state of the charger, etc.

It's maybe worth highlighting that your Tesla experience was with a pre-refresh (now obsolete) model. The refreshed Model S addresses many of the issues you mentioned... The new S has door pockets with bottle holders, a good-sized center console, 2 large conveniently-positioned wireless phone chargers (that don't overheat phones) and the car itself charges much faster, though still not as fast as the Taycan.

Then again, The S's range and efficiency are greater, so total road-trip travel times are similar between it and the Taycan...

May be with checking out our new Taycan MagSafe mount (much more stream lined than the ProClip and already has the MagSafe functionality attached). Simply clips to your centre console on whichever side is desired, no screws etc. Unlike the proclip our holder is also lined with a supple foam to prevent marking of the leather.
