Is it a few very bad circumstances or is the taycan really that unreliable?
Pretty much every interaction I have with any company as a customer these days, I get offered some sort of feedback questionnaire. I virtually never fill them out unless I have something extremely negative to say, or if somebody really went out of their way to help me out far beyond the call of duty. I never write "met expectations, works fine", and I don't think I'm alone here.

I figure there are plenty of satisfied Taycan owners that would rather do other things than tell us that.

Me included. Absolutely no issues with my 22MY after about 18 months ownership. In fact, I am pretty surprised at the lack of defects. It's really impressive achievement IMO given the company's lack of experience in the EV space.

I don't doubt that others are having issues and are dissatisfied. Very sorry for your troubles. However I am very satisfied with the car and haven't experienced any of the issues noted, apart from an infrequent and unexpected rebooting of the PCM, which I don't regard as a problem because I am focused on the driving.

I'm getting a bit tired of the "Porsche is a driver's car" excuses for the absolutely godawful electronics and software in this car. This is a $70,000-250,000 car. There is absolutely zero excuse for not having top-tier capabilities in the software.

For the people who somehow want an EV but don't want it to have modern capabilities, well, you are always free to NOT use them, but for literally everyone else, this is not a good experience. For me as a first-time Porsche buyer, given what I have seen so far, I would absolutely not consider another Porsche (regardless of engine type) if their electronics and software game is this crappy.

It's 2023. The "it's a driver's car, electronics don't matter" philosophy simply does not fly. Doubly so given that most Taycans are being used as daily drivers as opposed to much of Porsche's lineup that are usually treated as garage queens.
Relax SloppyG, the car mostly works properly for most of us most of the time. That’s the same experience with most cars today. We get the added amazing driver’s experience. You sounds like you need a hug, or maybe a cookie. ?

SloppyG, the fact is that this has always been a Porsche issue, I.e., quirks at a minimum, major issues at a maximum. It just happens to be software now rather than bad synchros, IMS bearings, exploding coolant lines, finger followers, crankshaft failures, etc. It’s par for the course with owning a Porsche. The only difference with the Taycan is that it’s brought a lot of first time buyers to Porsche who are only just learning what some of us have known for 40 years.

Slappy, not Sloppy, my friend... ;) As to being annoyed, see my comment below.

I think this hits the nail on the head. As someone coming to the brand for the first time, the expectation from the marketing and sales work is not just one of performance, but also high quality. Perhaps, given your comment, the quality has simply never been there when it comes to major systems. If true, that's unfortunate, but it feels like the brand image and marketing/sales are painting a pretty misleading picture of what your money gets you. (More so than some other brands - for example, no one will expect a Dodge Challenger Hellcat to be a high-quality vehicle.)

Taycan has brought tons of first-time buyers to the brand, and I expect I'm not alone in expecting a brand name like Porsche to be, if not reliable, then at least functional and at feature parity with its contemporaries in most of the major categories. Based on your comment, and some of the people being annoyed or shocked at my comments, it sounds like the quality level just isn't there in the brand. Sucks to find out after dropping a lot of cash, but it is what it is. That said, I will stand by my comments 100% that at this price point, we should all expect better.

Anytime you push the envelope, you’re going to have some issues. Porsche customers put up with it because the driving experience is so good. If the trade off is not worth it to you, then you are not their target customer. Nothing wrong with that, but, rest assured, Porsche will be fine.

And btw, if you consider a Tesla ‘higher quality’ than a Porsche because it’s UI is faster/more reliable, then you’re definitely not Porsche’s target customer.

How do you all feel about the Leica M11…

Cameras aside… Is it a few very bad circumstances or is the taycan really that unreliable? Im getting more and more worried about the 2024 GTS ST I have arriving soon.
Same here. Car due to arrive in Baltimore next Thursday and the more I read this thread the more I’m having second thoughts.

My used 4CT is being transported across the country (literally, as in, almost the entire width: Bellevue WA > Amherst MA) starting tomorrow.
But this thread is having the opposite effect, fully reinforcing my decision ...
... to keep my Audi A6 Allroad as a reliable backup!
(Or at least that's how I'll explain to my wife why I'm selling her old Subaru Impreza even though I said we should keep it back in May when I bought her a BMW i4 M50, since the 4CT is even more of a wild card.)

I'm having a difficult time understanding what you mean by "electronics", "major systems", and "software". To me, that would be things like battery management, drivetrain, and steering, and everything I have read so far indicate that the Taycan has best-in-class engineering in these sorts of areas.

If you're speaking of things like sending text messages, skipping audio tracks, and communicating with mobile apps about whether the driver left the windows open, maybe other brands do much better.

But I wouldn't consider those to be "major systems" (not that you are under any obligation to care about my opinion).
