Hi All,
I've swapped over my winter wheels and tires to my 21 inch summer wheels with a new set of GY eagle on them.
Little bit of a long story. Last time my car was in the stealers, they advised that I needed new TPMS fitting but couldn't do it as the winter wheels were on and these TPMS were fine. Apparently, something to do with a recall. So.. When I took off my summer wheels last year I sent them away to be refurbished but the company that did them, sent the back when done but forgot to send the TPMS with them. They then lost the TPMS package so they sent new ones to me which have been added to the wheels and the wheels have gone back on today.

I've told the Taycan that is has 21 inch wheels on again and took the car for a quick spin to check everything. The TPMS started to communicate but didn't display any pressures.

So, for my question. Do TPMS need to be mated to the car before they can work? If so, do I need a Porsche dealer to do this?

Thanks in advance.

I switched to summer tyres recently and the TPMS pressures displayed after a mile drive from what I remember. I switched the tyre setting on the TPMS screen on the PCM before driving off. Both sets of tyres were provided by the dealer though. I wouldn't expect the sensors need mated to the car though.

I’ve been told that TPMS needs to be registered to the system.

Almost certainly they do need coding to the car. Had to do the same on my cayenne so can’t believe the system has changed and it recognises each TPMS sensor by magic. youll need to get dealer to code them for you. Takes time Though.

Have you any idea on which sensors were provided for your summer tyres. Taycan uses, like many other cars, certain preconfigured sensors. You can clone the sensors in the Orinal Porsche supplied tyres and then programme the new sensors, if they are of an universal type. If a good tyre specialist can do this gor you, you will not need Porsche to do anything and you avoid the extra Porsche Tax.

I have cloned all four sensors in my summer tyres and programmed them into universal TPMS sensors. No problems when switching tyres since the address is exactly the same as the ones in the 21 inch wheels.

+1 - had Discount Tire here in the US do that (i.e. clone the OEM settings) for a couple of new Bosch sensors I needed to replace on a set of 3rd party wheels for my M4 and worked seamlessly.

I need to do this as the 19s I bought had the OEM ones removed. Any recommendations on good universal sensors to buy?

I was going to buy the sensors and get them coded the same as my other tires- discount tire. Will try that and then maybe a programmer.
