Congratulations neighbor! Stay away from the EA DCFC at the Newcastle Wawa. It seems there’s always a Chevy Bolt owner’s convention there clogging up the chargers.
Ugh. That seems to be the only DCFC (EA or otherwise) anywhere near convenient for me in Delaware! Go by it all the time when heading to Philly for games or to the airport.

There’s a state-funded station “coming soon” that would be 10 minutes away but who knows when that will be.

Regarding the Tesla thing. If you are into that, then Tesla Model S is arguably worthy to play with. But if a 3 or a Y does that? Ignore them like you would a Toyota Corolla revving its engine at you.

  1. I''m still getting quotes on a NEMA 14-50 outlet install in my garage so it might be a week or two before I can charge at home, but my neighbor has a Level 2 outside his driveway and offered to let me charge there, if needed. He didn't ask for anything, but any idea how much I should slip him anyway, maybe per hour I use it?
Suggest you not rely on any Porsche brand EVSE for home charging. See many posts on forum for why, including this thread: https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...uide-to-the-porsche-evse-pmc-pmcc-pwcc.13886/

Fell in love with the 928 as a kid in the 80's and have had a Porsche as my "dream car" ever since. A few years ago I decided my 2012 Hyundai Sonata would go to my middle son when he turned 16 and I would move on to an EV. With his birthday and driver's license approaching this summer, I started looking at 4 door, non-SUV EVs and didn't really like the (pretty limited) options in my $50-$70k range. Then saw some good deals on Audi e-trons compared to sticker that were still out of my range that then led me to the Taycan and the (sorry if this is triggering for some!) depreciation discounts on low mile dealer titled inventory.

Got a good annual bonus a few weeks ago and thought why not try to stretch my initial range enough to get not only my first EV but also my first Porsche. After a couple of weeks of research, searching, and test drives I took delivery yesterday of a CPO base 2023 Taycan with 3,400 miles that spent 8 months as a dealer loaner.

I had been lurking in this forum heavily these last couple of weeks and gained a lot of valuable insight from everyone's opinions, advice, and experiences. There are still a few things I haven't come across answers to yet, so hoping to get some guidance in this thread.
  1. I'm good with saying "Tie-con" when talking aloud about my car, but can't quite bring myself to say "Poor-shah", is that considered a "Foe-pah"?
  2. There's no Porsche owner secret wave, pinkie thing, or glove box full of rubber ducks I have to know about, right?
  3. During one of my test drives a Tesla pulled up alongside me at a red light and got my attention and was doing all he could (via mouthing and hand signals) to get me to race him when the light turned green. Is that a common EV and/or Porsche thing?
  4. My dealer gave me both the Porsche mobile charger connect kit (but minus the recalled part) from the original equipment and a new JuiceBox 40 to use until the recalled part comes in (and that I can keep after.) Is it worth bothering to take the JuiceBox down when the Porsche part comes in and remount everything? Or just keep it up and store the Porsche kit in case I ever get a summer house in the Hamptons ;)
  5. I know that 80% is usually the max point to charge the battery, but is it ok to do a full charge once a month or so? I have to travel to the office occasionally and could probably do it roundtrip and go from 100% to 20%. There's one Level 2 in the office parking lot but it's for the whole complex so not a guarantee it will always be available while I'm there. And no convenient EA stations with DC chargers on the route, either.
  6. Should I occasionally get the battery down below 10% or more, like it's sometimes recommended for phone batteries?
  7. Should I avoid topping it off (to 80%) after every drive, even if it's something like 15-20 miles roundtrip?
  8. It's not listed on my spec sheet because the dealer said it was something they do to all their loaners/demos to protect them for selling value, but supposedly I have a "clear bra" paint protection film. They said they didn't charge any extra for it when they priced it, but is there a way to see/tell that it's really on there?
  9. The QE1 Storage Package is on my spec sheet and I assumed that was the rubber mat trunk tray and the interior storage, but is that all? I forgot to ask the dealer.
  10. I work from home and will only put about 5K yearly miles on it (if that) so don't see hitting 50k miles for 7 or 8 years. I have 3 years, 4 months of factory warranty plus another 2 years from the CPO warranty. I can add 1 more CPO year for $2,700 and declined for now but then I also know how expensive a Porsche (and EV's in general) can be for repairs and wondering if I should consider it more seriously?
  11. I'm still getting quotes on a NEMA 14-50 outlet install in my garage so it might be a week or two before I can charge at home, but my neighbor has a Level 2 outside his driveway and offered to let me charge there, if needed. He didn't ask for anything, but any idea how much I should slip him anyway, maybe per hour I use it?
Think that's it for now. Thanks!
Welcome to the club @The Noid. I see your questions have been answered, so nothing much I can add.

Enjoy your new car. It is a great car and a joy to drive.

It doesn't take long to work out all of the features of the car and to get into your routine for charging it. ?

Thanks! I'm taking the suggestion from @hifi239 and stowing the Porsche mobile EVSE in case I need to tote one with me somewhere. For my garage, I am going with the "Good" @daveo4EV set-up of a 50 amp charging circuit, 14-50 outlet and a non-Porsche 40 amp EVSE (JuiceBox).

About a week out now and wanted to confirm the following with others:
  1. There is no way to assign drive mode selection (specifically to get to Range mode) to one of the 2 programable "diamond" buttons.
  2. The trunk lid will not power close from the key fob, only from the inside on the touch panel.
Also, anyone use the Homelink proximity feature and know the trick for pushing/selecting it when it pops up? I seem to average 4 finger presses when trying to touch the screen to get it to register, no matter where on the pop-up section I press. Maybe because it shows up in the very bottom left it's in a hard spot to pick up touch? And when I try to use the track pad to select it and click, it always registers as clicking the "x" and exits out. I have it on one of the diamond buttons now, but might want to free it up for something else.

I press and hold for just a second and Homelink works for me using that technique. I wish you could map more functions to the two diamond buttons but it seems heavily limited, much like the display options for the instrument clusters.

Edit: I've never tried closing the trunk with the fob. It actually never even occurred to me. Probably some odd lawyer thing where they don't want it closing unless you're standing right there watching so no one accidentally pinches a finger. :(
