Got rear-ended by a teenager not paying attention. :crying: Unfortunately, the car isn't drivable because a portion of the frame/structure is pushed into the back wheel and into the tire. The question for the group is will this be repairable, or are they going to total the car? With damage to the rear quarter panel, I'm not seeing how it's repairable, but anyone have experience with how Porsche deals with repairs like this? Since we're going into a weekend the insurance company couldn't get an adjuster to come look until next week. I'm really not fond of waiting for parts for a repair, but I'm even more saddened if I have to have it totalled and start the ordering process again.

Ouch!

Estimated cost for the repairs could be prohibitively expensive. A forum member in UK caught a pothole on his new ST and apart from a damaged rim and tyre didn't think too much of it. On closer inspection by the dealer they checked the suspension and chassis to discover it was twisted. Estimated costs for the repairs escalated to £20K (!!!).

Car was repaired but highlights what can happen.

I had a similar damages when my tesla was rear ended. It was 5+ months for the damage assessments, ordering of parts, the work beginning, then more damages that were hidden were found, another wait for parts then the car was repaired. they actually did an incredible job, you'd never know that the car was damaged so badly.
it cost $26k+ for the repairs, and I was surprised that the insurance company paid for the repairs. so it isn't a given that the car will be totalled.

That's repairable, even with the rear quarter panel damage. It will be expensive but not enough to total the car.

Agree with this. Unless there is major hidden damage, that is likely repairable.

Sorry to hear.

If you are certain there is a frame damage, most likely the insurance company will total it. I am certain Taycan is uni-body frame car. Its going to be tough order to repair such frame and bring it to factory specs. I will certainly fight the insurance company on repairing a frame damage.

Is yours one of the large national insurance company? .

Hope all goes smooth.

Thanks everyone - hard to confirm there is frame damage, but looking at the bumper bracket to frame, you can see the mount is bent, and I think that is a portion of the frame (bluish color) that is rubbing against the tire. Guess we'll see the insurance adjuster says next week.

If it does get repaired, I'd ask for a diminished value claim against the other party's insurance. That will help absorb or defray the loss in value due to the accident when it's time to sell or trade-in your vehicle.

There is a guy on YT with very similar damage that is doing a repair. He is a mechanic and shows the process of what needs to be done. Unfortunately, he bought the car as a salvage (if I am not mistaken) but the repairs look to be very straightforward. It’s not a channel I normally follow…otherwise, I would provide a link.

absolutely correct, I managed to get some money from them for D/V after I was rear ended but the insurance company will fight tooth and nail and the amounts involved make it tough to hire a lawyer.

Unfortunately you might be better off if they total it. Diminished value is going to be a real problem on a repair like that.

I wouldn’t touch a car that wasn’t repaired by a certified Porsche shop. Repairing welds and adhesives on a Porsche are not something you want to trust to a pull and bondo shop. There’s a great thread on RL about this from a few years back called something like ‘So you think it’s just a simple bumper repair?’ Also one about a guy who rebuilt a wrecked RS and did the welds wrong.

Good news (I suppose...) is that after calling around, I could only find 2 certified Porsche shops that will even look at the car - all other collision centers flat out turned me down for even touching it based on the damage.
