Recently, my little DC ‘fast charge’ flap has stopped staying open - so it’s quite hard to plug in the typical cable that requires two hands to twist into place.

Because it “still works”, it’s not considered a warranty issue…and replacing would require replacing the entire module, which costs >$3500, which is clearly not worth it.

Anyone have any idea what can go wrong here, and is there a way to fix it without replacing the whole silly thing? It’s obviously a $2 flap and probably some sort of tiny interlock piece that’s broken…

I knew someone would have the answer, but my search-fu clearly failed. I’ll get the part ordered. Thanks! There was just no way it was a $3500 full-assembly fix.

Glad it's getting sorted.

Was it the dealer who quoted to replace the whole unit?

I think it's borderline theft/fraud the way some dealers lie about stuff like this.

Its like asking a plumber to replace a radiator valve and they just lie and say it can't be done you have to replace the whole central heating system.

Back street tactics from a supposedly premium brand.

The flap is a separate part, called lid or cover. About $25. Can it not just be replaced?

See If you break your charging flap

and broken dc flap causes bad day
A bookmark page, thanks

My electric charge cover often shuts down on the flap. It's going to break sooner or later, I may just buy this and keep it handy.

I fault the design of the charge cover. I don't need it to automatically come down after I take the DC plug off.

The parts diagram shows two parts for the flap. One part has an A as a suffix. Not sure what the difference is.

FWIW the "DC flap" is supposed to close itself when you remove the charge plug - which stops it getting trapped as the main cover closes.

That said I _think_ when you first flip open the DC flap it should stay open to allow you to plug in without having to manually hold it open - so that would mean there's some latch mechanism which de-latches when the DC plug goes in. I'll take a look at mine later today to check.

My DC flap fell out a couple of months ago. I didn't think it was broken but waited for a dealer check as the car was getting the new brake hoses the following week.
I was also told that if it was broken, it would need a whole new unit.

Yeah, I think they don't quite realize that there's a part that fixes this.

Could you share where you ordered it from and exact part number?

I ordered PAB971 904 A from the dealer - Porsche Westwood. They indicated it should be in around Wednesday of next week. 4KE971904, mentioned elsewhere, is an Audi part number, whereas PAB971904A is the Porsche number.
