Aftermarket?:CWL:

Good luck trying to find hardware that will integrate with the PCM. Oh and don’t forget the sub…
I think there was a post about an aftermarket amp system which simply plugged into the same connector as the VW spec one the Bose or Burmester boxes connect to and the same company do a “sub” for the underfloor of the boot, again like the other two.
It uses the existing drivers and locations though and needs specialist equipment to balance which I am sure many car stereo installers have.

How much better it actually is I don’t know.

A slight increase in level (volume) is heard as an increase in clarity rather than actually louder, a fact many a Hi-Fi dealer has used to sell expensive electronics, interconnects and speaker cables

Burmester sound system in Porsche has no parts made by them, the speakers and amplifier are made by ASK.
Its just higher quality hardware, that's why it sounds better than Bose.
Probably Burmester got involved in tunning.

An aftermarket audio system would sound better for half cost.
I;ve been told that Bose designed the system specialy for Taycan.
Regarding aftermarket: someone mentioned that ruins Porche’s warranty.

And that does nothing for the quality of the sound processing or the clarity of sound out of the speakers. And it’s a McGuyvering of a $150,000 car.

It might be better to just throw an aftermarket sub into the car, assuming it can be connected to the standard system. The car audio specialist then tunes it properly. The amp rather than the speakers will make the biggest difference to sound quality.

That may well end up the same price as the BOSE, but superior to both it and the Burmester.

Interesting at the previous comments where the Burmester system is effectively white labelling of another manufacturer's hardware.

And that's another thing quite prevalent especially with luxury brands - partnerships. Tag Huer and Porsche as another example.

It is marketing, only done in a more subtle way and where there is mutual benefit for both brands who share the same audience.

Burmester very likely has no car audio R&D, it is squarely a marketing play. This too is why the Burmester is just not worth it - you are essentially paying a premium for nothing more than some clever marketing.

Porsche and Burmester know someone prepared to pay £120k for a car would probably pay £5k for a home sound system. The Burmester is purposefully overpriced because then when you explore their home audio products, suddenly it seems "affordable" and good value.

Pricing psychology is a real thing.

And Burmester gets direct access to their audience without having to work out where to find them: they're sat in a car cabin, experiencing "Burmester" (well, the whitelabelled hardware).

Well sound is basically always going to be pretty shite in a car because of physics.
I am not sure whether better expensive drivers are worthwhile, personally.

The biggest limits are background noise and complete impossibility of being the right distance from the speaker drivers. In every system I know there are so many drivers and mids and trebles are so far apart it is not possible to properly integrate them. These fundamentals are impossible to resolve with any choice of electronics or speaker drivers though DSP can integrate multi drivers fairly well but only for one point in space.
I gave up on trying to get good sound quality in a car many years ago.

WTF is McGuyvering?

I also have the standard audio system. When I ordered my car, I knew that the installation would come nowhere near my high-end installation at home. However, I had not considered that even the sound from my clock radio would be better.

I decided to upgrade the installation with an aftermarket solution.
Cost just under 4000 euros.

All speakers will be replaced, a center speaker will be added, the doors will be insulated from the inside and a DSP amplifier will drive everything.

I replaced the center speaker, tweeters and the sub in my Panamera and it really improved the Bose sound. Now highs are not harsh, center speaker is more refined and bass is deep.

My friend has Burmester in his Panamera and listen to some songs in mine, he couldn't believe how good it is after upgrades, he thought that bass in mine sounds better, haha

Of course his system has much more volume and clarity on top end but you'll get deaf listening at max volume. The AMT tweeters and high power sub do the trick for Burmester.

When I'll get a Taycan with Bose I'm doing the same. I might lose warranty of the amplifier but I doubt the entire car warranty is voided.

Not a problem...as you are intercepting the audiosignal between the PCM and the speakers. This...means that you can basically use any hardware you want to...that physically fits.
