Morning

my 2 year old Taycan has gone in for its service at 16k miles.

I have been told and shown that Tyes are wearing on inside (rest of tyres fine) and need replacing ! The wheels need alignment at a cost of £750 !

anyone else come across this ? No impacts apart from usual speed bumps and potholes here in Uk.

Yes that is pretty much the standard cost of an alignment. Way beyond ridiculous had an alignment done 1 year ago and it still ate through my tires in that time. Once again Porsche trying to kill this cars future value.

The inside tyre wear is a known thing with Porsche, it's how they set up their camber.
I'd look for an independent Porsche specialist, should cost around £150 - £180 for a 4-wheel alignment.

They are kind of backtracking slightly and saying (what you said) that they do wear tyres on the inside and that the alignment is ‘advisory’ to reduce future wear.

Plenty of discussions on this in the past, though those threads may have been lost by the forum's recent server issues.

Lots have big problems with this, Im lucky and mine seem to wear evenly.

Apparently you need to take bumpers etc off to do the wheel alignment (great design) properly on the taycan, hence the cost. So independent may not be able to help.

Conventional wisdom is the problem is exacerbated if you run the car in the the 2 lower suspension settings. So if you're always in sports plus, that may be part of your problem.

I think it is camber adjustment that needs the bumper to be removed. Even then, all they can adjust is to make each side’s camber the same as the other side by moving the subframe left/right. They can do regular toe settings without removing the bumper, so cost should depend on what needs to be adjusted. They will also likely demand that some sensors need to be recalibrated at some cost…

I lowered my car 10 mm and always drive on the lowest, no problem whatsoever.
I'm on my third set, 45.000 km (2×Pirelli, now Goodyear), all nice and even wear.

It is common for them to wear on the inside. The OPC cost for wheel alignment is outrageous, just take it to any good tyre shop with Hunter or similar equipment and it will cost circa £100. Ideally ask the dealer what needs adjusting, it is usually just the toe which is quick to adjust. If the front camber needs adjusting the front bumper has to come off. My guess is that the £750 is just for toe adjustment as OPCs usually charge a lot more if camber is out.

If you need new tyres shop around as tyre depots will be a lot cheaper than OPC. On my previous 4S CT I saved about £70/£80 each on OPC price. With 4 new tyres there might be a deal to be done on wheel alignment at the same time.

I got my OPC to check and adjust the wheel alignment on my current 4S ST for free when it went in after 1000 miles for a new HV charger last year. Tech said it took him about 25 mins.

My original tires lasted about 20,000 miles. Took the car to dealership for tire replacement and inside tire wear was similar to what you describe. Dealership 'suggested' an alignment and I said no thanks............I drive in Sport Plus always and the camber will wear the inside of the tires. Fast forward to the new tires with about 5,500 mile on them and dealership says......................tires look fine, normal wear. My situation and not yours, but I think that I would decline the alignment as the camber settings are most likely the culprit, not due to damage from impact, etc. My little bitty pea brain thoughts anyhow.

I think that’s because you must have replaced them before they got down to the wear bars. Mine has 43k miles now and I am on the third set, all Pirellis. I drove it for a little over 19k miles before replacing them and while the center was right at the wear bars, the inner was balding.

No, I haven't.
I bought new wheels (with contis) and the wheels with the "old" Goodyears are now stored and are worn evenly (9000 km).
I measured them with a tire gauge.
Same as the Pirellis so I already knew my alignment was on par.
I think Pirellis wear much faster but have more grip.
The Goodyears last longer but drive as good as the Pirellis.
Contis, don't know yet.

It happens when you do a lot of city driving where you steer a lot and also much charper.
Due to the Ackermann steering the inner of the tire will wear faster but it's great in fast corners.
I mainly drive on the highway.

I get much more road noise from goodyears than pirellis; my experience - almost all the service cars i get have goodyears

Quite happy with Pirellis. Got 30.000 km on them, and now I am replacing the rears - even wear. The front are good for at least another 10.000km.

Agree with another poster - front camber is a bumper off job.
My j1.1 had major wear issues after a few thousand miles.
j1.2 is even (so far).
