Good afternoon
I have had this issue twice, both time it corrected itself by me turning the car off, locking it and leaving for ten/twenty mins.
A week after this though the onboard charger failed and Porsche had the car for six weeks whilst the made, imported the part from Germany and renewed the part. Just got it back and so far so good.
Yep mine was replaced too but I kept the car whilst the part arrived (several months ago).

You will get the message if the door closes before you remove the charging cable and opens again.

The car will then report the error and won't clear until you do the lock and leave routine.

Just had the same a few hours ago. . I was charging at a fast station, swiped to open the port, plugged in the cable. I went back to sit in the car and found the message. I locked the car and left it there. Charging was completed without issues. Port closed by itself. The error disappeared. is it bad?

All good. Did the door close whilst the inner charge port flap was in the down position? Probably did this when your back was turned and then opened again without you realising it.

I now have the problem that the right hand port ( driver’s side for me ) is stuck open and won’t charge either AND the left hand side won’t open.

The warning light states that the left hand side is “impaired”.

Last time something similar happened, it righted itself, but it’s been 48 hours now.

Any thoughts, anyone ?

Charge port has failed on the opposite side and if confirmed will need replaced. Should impact AC charging only. I had this issue 8 months ago.

My Porsche dealership has advised that if the problem hasn’t righted itself by now, they will need to send a low-loader to collect the car and take it away. They will then analyse what’s wrong and order a part from The Fatherland. Then they will fit the part and deliver the car back - some time in the early New Year.

This for the equivalent of a petrol-cap. Unbelievable.

I think the problem is more than a petrol / charge port cap / cover - message states Charging Port (socket where you connect the cable to charge) it likely means the AC charger port (on one of the sides) has actually failed which isn’t ideal and worse can disable the rest.

Fair point. I am now taking the car to the dealership 50 miles away and getting a loan car. Not good for a six month old car costing well into six figures.

Unfortunately, the problem is back after the harness was replaced and all upgrades made months ago. Great car as is my Hybrid Cayenne, but the reliability of the two Porsches is the worst I’ve ever experienced with the exception of a 2005 Ford Escape! Lexus - great. Mercedes - good. Tesla - great.

My 4S (delivered Nov2020) has occasionally shown the “Right charging port impaired“ message (UK car so RH side). It says check charging port, see Driver’s Manual. Nothing found in Driver’s Manual!!!
Now the message flashes on and off constantly and I can not open RH port. Car will not accept charge on LH port, tried several chargers. Soon nothing left on battery, so weekend ruined… Will call dealer in the morning although they are usually not very helpful and claim their policy is not to offer a courtesy car.

Hi.

My problem was the RH port stuck open and would not accept a charage. Because the RH port was open, the LH was locked closed.

This required a 60 mile trip to the dealer’s ( South Lakes ) to pick up a courtesy car ( a Cayenne Hybrid ) and a 6 day wait, as it was over New Year.

The fault was a sensor and switch for the RH port, so a fairly easy fix, once the part arrived from the Fatherland.

A very expensive and irritating experience.

Call Porsche Assist - they have to give you a courtesy car if you can't drive or move your car.

I had this issue and my charge port failed and had to be replaced. DC charging was fine.

I’ve just had a total failure of both charge port doors out of the blue today. Tried various resets. Porsche assistance came out and can’t fix it so it needs to go to the dealer. Sheesh.
