Have just taken delivery of my new 23 plate GTS Sport Turismo. My main reason for switching from my Taycan Turbo was the prospect of close to 300 miles range, meaning I could get to Cornwall in one go from Oxfordshire without the lottery that is Collumpton Services.
Massively disappointed to see a range of 197 miles, which is 30 miles LESS than the Turbo it replaces. Porsche dealer worse than useless as normal. Does anybody have any suggestions/know of upcoming software upgrades?

I’m not sure the range of the GTS was expected to be materially different to the Turbo anyway, but surely the key point is that it takes time for the new car to adjust and start to deliver the maximum range, not least because you aren’t using regen yet?

I’m not expecting to be able to do my usual trip from Kent to Cornwall on a single charge, but do hope that I will be able to use the Tesla superchargers at Solstice Park, Salisbury for a quick top up, whilst a have a toilet stop roughly half-way.

I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed as this is typical for the winter range most of us are experiencing in the UK right now especially with a new car that hasn’t yet learned your habits and bedded in the brakes. Lots of other threads on this topic. It will improve on the summer but probably don’t expect 300!

Probably because of the cold weather.
I only get 160/170 range for my 4S at the moment (without performance battery).
Hopefully get closer to 200 and above in the summer.

The GTS was the only model tested for new WLTP range with the new software. The other models also had the new battery and motor management with the software update and should have similar range but as not WLTP tested can’t show those numbers on paper.

With the range calculator on the website I get 291 miles with the GTS 100% country roads, 25 degrees outside, eco pro AC and 20 inch wheels. Changing to 21 inch wheels, 100% highway, normal AC and 5 degrees Celsius outside temperatures only gives 195 miles of range.

did you have the same wheels on both? And the ST is a bit less economic than the sedan. Than can also be it.

From a technical point of view I don’t see any reason a GTS would have much difference to a turbo in range.
They are mechanically the same so the mechanical losses will be the same at the same speed. The ST aero is slightly worse then the saloon so at steady equal speed consumption will be worse.
Tyre size and temperature both have a big impact on range though, as does regen braking kicking in after 500 miles or so.

There was talk of new software giving longer range but that does not seem to have materialised in practice, or at least not a significant change, which I would expect as long as the original software was good.

That is 317km, which is the absolute limit I ever get in my Taycan RWD with PB+ now, at 8,600km.

I hear this all of the time, but the very best range I've had from one charge in my Taycan RWD PB+ is 330km, which was on the first long drive I did, not long after I collected the car, on the motorway with two hours of rain and standing water, at a cruise of around 120km/h. I've never got close since.

That was never ever going to be an achievable range.

The 300 miles is a WLTP lab test result and not real life. Your range will end up similar to what you had before.

The battery tech is the same as is the software so nothing new really in your GTS.

I have a new GTS ST where the range is similar at the same age my 4S was. It will take some miles before range starts to climb towards 230 miles.

The software upgrades came as part of last year's uPdate and so you already have it.

Porsche website kWh/100km WLTP figures (as per summary of each model variant, not the range estimation tool):
GTS ST 24.1 - 21.0
Turbo ST 24.2 - 20.9
Turbo saloon 23.6 - 20.2

I know, my car will have been delivered with the same software as the originators GTS ST.

It is just that there seemed to be great enthusiasm for a marked increase in range which has not, apparently, been significant with many people complaining of less range rather than the expected more after the uPdate was done on their car.

I am sure there is a difference but it seems to be very small in normal use - maybe just an improvement for the test cycle.

I bet you bought the GTS for better efficiency then fitted RS Spyders to make the efficiency worse!
Just like me!
The standard GTS wheels are 20’ AND aero so would be significantly better.

My GTS RS Spyder saloon even with the new software has worse consumption than my old 4S with 20’ aeros with old software across the seasons. By about 50 miles on full charge. Consistently

As said, things will get better.
Warmer weather and regen kicking in will improve things.

RWD and 4S will always be more efficient. GTS is more like Turbo or Turbo S for efficiency.

You could get from Oxon to Cornwall AND back in a RWD saloon with 19’ wheels. (Nearly)

The price you pay for looking ?.

I predict you will get there in 1 hit with the following technique.

20 degrees C
Summer weekday no school hols no traffic.
Not too hot so Eco Plus ok in hunkered down range mode.
Dry.
(Wet v bad for rolling resistance. I got to Ionity Stafford with 1 mile range once after downpour on M6 dramatically reduced range)
Following wind, westerly is prevailing so return journey more likely
Charge to 100% immediately before travel and precondition car from the mains.
No hurry. 60-65mph

Ok, yr not driving it like you stole it but you get to spend more time inside yr beautiful GTS. Alcantara I hope!
I like being in mine, on my own(!), with music and I don’t even have Bose or Bumster!
More people will see you looking cool and give you ?
No one gives you ? if you are doing 95 flashing people out of the way and generally driving aggressively.
People think ?
It’s an exercise best done without passengers whining about slow speed.
‘Are we there yet?’
That’s just my wife, never mind the boys
I only do my efficiency challenges solo.

You might even get there quicker than someone who has to wait 45 mins at Collumpton then get a max charging speed of 50kw.
This happened to me Easter 2022.
Its a lottery there as you say.

The only way to get close to the headline numbers is to switch AC to OFF, use 19" plain jane alloys then wait for 25C ambient or above and then immigrate to Florida to experience all year round high range.

Not really sure why you are telling me this??????????

It is the original poster you are presumably meaning to address?

WLTP numbers are a fiction. About as real world as Harry Potter. There should be a sticky on this forum entitled ‘So You Think Your Taycan Should Do 300 Miles?’
