Below are extracts about the 2025 Taycan new headlights.

For Taycans in the US (which I understand are not permitted to fully use some headlight features),
  • what are the actual differences between the standard and optional Taycan headlights?
  • are the expanded "adaptive functions" of the HD matrix headlights enabled in US?

I can read the words below but I don't understand what they mean to me as a driver in US.

I mentioned this in the other thread but here is that article re supposedly allowing automakers to enable adaptive lights in the US - TBH, have not gone through it enough to know if it allows truly full operability of the Euro spec advanced headlight functions but this announcement was also back in Feb 2022!!

In the configurator it sounds like you need to have high-rez lights to have auto high-beam? That sounds a bit nutty as it’s standard equipment in most cars now. Does anybody know what’s true?

From what I read recently, the US approved adaptive beam headlights in Feb 2022, but the US rules for testing and compliance differ from standards used elsewhere in the world. Result seems to be that auto manufacturers are petitioning that the US rules be changed. Hearsay result is that adaptive headlights are yet to be certified for use in US.

I still would like to know what difference is for US drivers between standard and optional headlights on 2025 Taycans.

i assume these headlights are using a similar tech to the Audi matrix from the etrons, see a demo here:

The short version is the US regulations didn't properly mirror the European ones so the existing lighting hardware doesn't meet our revised standard. Any activated full matrix headlights in the US were done by a third party, not the manufacturer.

... And that really sucks

The matrix LED is also standard on a Cayenne for 2024. I believe those have auto highbeam as well and you don’t have to go to the HD matrix.. iirc

Standard are LED with PDLS

Matrix option has 32,000 LEDs (T1 has 83), has PDLS, some more fancy party ticks,

I doubt all features of matrix will be available in NA unless the approval debacle has been resolved

Visually, the day time lights look better on the standard lights IMHO than on the new matrix

I have a clip below about PDLS and PDLS Plus.
Is either one of these included with standard 2025 headlights?
If so which one - PDLS or PDLS Plus?
Does the 2025 HD matrix headlights option do something more than PDLS/PDLS+?

How Does the Porsche Dynamic Light System Work?
PDLS increases safety when driving and enhances near-field, lateral, and far-field illumination by adjusting the range of the dipped beam according to driving speed. Additionally, the dynamic cornering light function rotates the main headlights towards the inside of a road’s curve based on the driver’s speed and steering angle. Static cornering lights turn on the auxiliary headlights for clearer visibility on tight, turning roads.

What is the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)?
What is the difference between PDLS and PDLS Plus? Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus has two added functions. First, at speeds higher than about 40 mph, the dynamic main beam will turn on and detect oncoming traffic and vehicles in front of you. The light cone’s intensity and range are adjusted depending on the surroundings. Secondly, Intersection Assistant turns on the electronic cornering lights to adjust the broadness and length of the light cones, which increases the visibility of the vehicle’s surroundings.

Check the standard spec on the configurator for your region to be sure.

PDLS+ with the new matrix does fancy things when in a confined lane such as going through road works to illuminate more the boundary of the retriction from what I've read

Seems pointless to pay for matrix if you don't get the functions and suspect for NA base LED comes with PDLS/+

In configurator, all the standard equipment spec says is:

Porsche Taycan Please shed some light on 2025 Taycan headlight options 1707595745186

Configurator Info for HD matrix is:
Porsche Taycan Please shed some light on 2025 Taycan headlight options 1707595359948

Nothing about PDLS in either case.
Note that HD-Matrix info says "auto high beam".
Does that mean auto high beam is not included in the standard 2025 headlights?

To be honest I'm not sure. What I didn't realise is that matrix is standard and HD matrix is an option and so there are 2 matrix options.

On the current non facelift model matrix came with PDLS and so my guess is that it is standard on both matrix options on the facelift model.

I don’t have the presentation with me, but as I recall, the difference between matrix and HD matrix really is that - the definition/number of leds. HD has (presumably) per-led control, whereas the standard are those 8 blocks, each being “one element”.

The PDLS nomenclature seems to have been retired; it included swiveling headlights as well as auto beams. The + had a bit of tuning on otherwise identical hardware: high beam throw was longer at speed, and at stops the beam would cover more of the side of the road. (The ICE Macan had a poor version of this - the fog lamps had a side cutout, which would open at low speeds with the steering wheel turned; it gave the impression of a directional, cornering short-distance light.)

Isn't it 84 controllable LEDs Vs 32,000 as per current Taycan matrix setup?

More detail when you click Standard Specification for a given model in the Summary section on the confuserator.

On the basis that matrix is standard I'm not sure I'd pay the premium for the other unless it is a step change.. I think 32K is an option on the new Cayenne and so sn opportunity to experience sooner rather than later.
