@Longy_UK, I switched my B9 RS5 coupe for a 4S Taycan sedan in November and am very happy with the Porsche. I used my RS5 almost exclusively on short runs and an electric made a good argument for my type of driving. You'll definitely notice the added weight and the grip is slightly less in a corner, but not enough to keep from going to the Taycan. And you'll definitely love the change from Audi to Porsche steering feedback and feel.

Best wishes whatever you decide to do.

Hello community,

I currently drive a C8 Audi RS6. I have had the car for 18months and LOVE it! But that being said I commute circa 35miles a day and do around 1000 miles a month so fuel is costing a fair chunk. Overall average is 21.8mpg during ownership.

I have been considering a car that is cheaper to run but still makes me smile and has the performance (aka the GTS sport tourismo) but is cheaper to run…. Given the running costs of the RS6 its rarely used for trips beyond 150 miles.

My maths make the Taycan about £500 per mont cheaper across fuel, tax, insurance and warranty (rs6 soon to be 3 and I wouldn’t dare run without)

My wife has a diesel Range Rover velar and we have a dog who isn’t allowed in my car lol. So all longer trips are done in that car. Im also going to get a 7kw charger installed at home.

I have found a great GTS at a good price and the deal is likely to conclude tomorrow…..

Perhaps the wrong place to ask but am I making a mistake here!

Thank you. All advice / thoughts welcome!
No mistake.

£0.07p per kW makes home charging a no brainer.

Buying MY24/MY23 new stock rather than Gen 2 MY25 is the tricky part. Big discounts around BUT....

I’ve recently moved from a C7.5 RS6, which I had for 7 years and before that a B7 RS4 which I had for 9 years.

I now have a GTS ST. I absolutely love it. It’s just brilliant to drive. Yes, there is the lack of the V8 noise, but when it comes to it, the silence is far more pleasant.
I went mad on options and have RAS and PDCC :) But it really is amazing fun but also far more serene for those journeys in traffic. I never feel tired after a drive in it!

Being able to charge at home at 7.5p/kWh and always have plenty of range works perfectly for me. For the occasional long trip, I’ve never had issues with DCFC charging but I’ve only ever needed to do it about 5 times in 6 months of ownership and 3,800 miles.

Hi @W1NGE but what? Likely greater depreciation due to new model? From what I’ve read the new car is very similar albeit with larger battery, updated control screens and a minor facelift.

Good to hear some others coming from high performance Audi’s with no regrets.

For me it really is about the battery - more of it and apparently more efficient. I'm not that anxious about range but other buyers are and this is where the problem lies. This is a mid-term refresh rather than an all new Taycan but unfortunately, as an EV it will get get hammered with depreciation (if that is of concern) making TCO 'scary'. Up to MY24 range per model / wheel size / UK ambient temps has remained pretty much constant. MY25 will make a material difference - ignore the WLTP fairytale numbers quoted but real range benefits.

Personally, conditions permitting I would skip the 'bargains' and go MY25. My dealer is awash with "new" (63 miles) MY23/24 Taycans of all flavours including a Turbo S CT with £40K off list (!!!). These cars have been sitting for months now. At one point they had the Porsche Code link attached to each car so that you could see the list price....needless to say that has now been removed as the discounts are embarrassing and will only devalue the brand / model IMHO.

MY25 4S will likely be as powerful as the current MY22/23/24 GTS - all models have the bump in power as is the norm with Porsche once the GTS models are released and a facelift / new model in the wings.

I'm on my 2nd Taycan and unless the market improves (or Porsche does something about plummeting 2nd hand values) I will sit this facelift out for quite a while and / or wait until 2027 / 28 when there will be a step change in battery tech for sure.

Don't get me wrong, these are fantastic cars but not the wisest place to put your cash right now.

Thank you so much for all of the comments! All very useful.

Yes they’re a great looking car; but so is the RS6. I want to move on but it’s hard from the Audi (hence this thread)!

With regard to depreciation I have done the maths and I’m comfortable - it’s not new - it’s very nearly new and is at a 36% discount! Furthermore the WBAC price is only a couple of grand less than I’ll be paying for it - for now anyway!

If you’re buying any £100k+ car it’s going to depreciate like a brick - EV or no

I could do salary sacrifice - BUT this has to be a new car and therefore it’s full price cars - this is where depreciation kicks in as the monthly salary loss on a 4s would actually be much more than the payments on the GTS. Oh and you can’t order a GTS at the minute anyway.

I’m a bit of a geek - I like the idea of scheduled charging to get the cheap rate etc…..

Next step is to drive the car. I did a long term loan with a turbo and to be honest I’d say that was ‘too’ fast.

Exciting times!
I drove an Audi RS7 for three years before I took the leap to my Taycan Turbo S. I missed the V8 growl for a couple of days, and that’s about the only thing I missed.

Sounds like you've already got a decent discount being offered. Given the market, i'd be very cheeky with a counter and see what happens.

Sounds like its pretty new so get they shouldn't have an issue with this, but get them to give you the battery state of health number. Apparently thy don't lie to give them out though.

Oh and get them to throw a nice extended warranty in. Costs them next to nothing, but valuable for the owner.

Wish I'd bought nearly new, but then agin there weren't any for sale then. doh.

Again, many thanks for all of the valuable input. RS7 to Taycan is basically the same - although im not going to a turbo s .

I fully understand the depreciation concerns. That being said, my RS6 was £115k new and now is worth circa £70k at two years old, so its lost £45k or nearly £2k per month... Ouch. As I have said before any expensive car depreciates terribly.

Given that the GTS ST is 3 months old with 300 miles on, the deal is certainly palatable. I cant imagine a three year old GTS ST will drop to £25k....

I have the build sheet for the vehicle and the cars initial value was £131k (its highly spec'd). I think its fair to assume a good chunk of the residual loss has already taken place.

Well I have paid the 'holding deposit' o_O although im still not fully committed as they need to work hard on the part ex price.

I cross shopped the RS6 when I bought my GTS ST. They're both great cars. Another advantage of the GTS is that the maintenance will be less frequent.
Good to see someone did the exact same!

So other than the loss of the V8 noise.... no regrets?

I think the reason the Porsche code no longer works is that gen 1 cars are no longer on the configurator and can't be specced. Up until th release of the gen 2, you could see the significant discounts
