I guess Porsche didn’t learn their lesson the first time I took them to arbitration over the charging cable- I won. Now I am going to file again over the battery cell recall. My Taycan has been at the dealership for over 30 days while Porsche , and its dysfunctional approach to fixing defective battery cells program fails. I dont blame the dealer its out of their control. Porsche requires the dealers to remove defective cells, wait weeks to receive a shipping container, ship the container to a 3rd party for repair and then ship back. Once the container is returned to the dealer the dealer is responsible for installing the repaired cell. the delay is with PCNA getting the cell(s) repaired not installed , All this with no timelines given to the dealer or customer.
Recourse: I put Porsche NA on notice that the recall repair now has taken over 30 days ( which is the reasonable standard time for repairs in CA)
Once I receive their response and if I don’t like what if anything they offer as compensation, I will file for arbitration, No need for attorney, it is a easy to do and costs me only my time(retired senior citizen ) while they will spend thousands for an attorney, and hearing. I also intend to inundate them with discovery requests which I know Porsche dislikes to provide since most of the discovery demonstrates how poorly they handle recalls. More to come…..

4/19/25 dealership called said PCNA rushing delivery of the repaired battery cells back to dealer for installation and I should have my car by end of the week..(as of last week Dealer said PCNA could not provide a date specific for returning the battery cells ) PCNA also told dealer to ensure my repair receives top priority. Like I said PCNA only responds when you. put them on notice re arbitration . I also followed up today with a demand letter for compensation ( i will take a loyalty repair voucher for $$$$) and want a response within 5 business days. Received response that they are reviewing the amount of the voucher they will send me. What a way to deal with customers that spend over hundred grand for a car.
UPDATE: PCNA offered to buy back my car. Not sure this makes sense since used car prices going up and I bet they would only offer me fair market value ($55K) they also offered loyalty value vouchers. Question what do forum members think is a fair offer for having my car out of service in excess of 45 day? $2500? Or more ?

Keep us posted

But Porsche’s approach seem to be to take the risk of hundreds or thousands of similar cases like yours; rather than replace all batteries with new batteries

In Europe is work is slightly faster, but can still take up to 3 weeks

Out of curiosity, what is the agreement with Porsche you are planning to arbitrate? Manufacturer warranty? Is arbitration a portion of that warranty or agreement?

I had some cells replaced and I'm pretty sure that Porsche Bellevue did the replacement onsite. I don't believe they had to ship out to a 3rd party and wait for repair. We did have to wait for the replacement parts to be shipped to the dealer from Germany however.

Good luck Scotty.
I wonder if this is a precursor to a “class action lawsuit” since apparently PNA continues to drag out an outright recall. I could imagine if they’re struggling to keep up with a few battery replacements that the cost & resources required to replace all the batteries from 2020 to 2024 which haven’t already been replaced could easily take years. I think they’re just hoping they can get to 2028 when their 2020 model warranties expire and continue delaying all the way to 2032 when the last of the 2024 warranties expire.
The big question is how much damage will Porsche do to their reputation between now & then rather than come clean and move on?
I don’t know if they can afford to or afford not to…

I have to wonder if the issue is manufacturing yield. Korea lags behind China significantly re: production of batteries I'm surprised they cannot address the needed volume.

I think it’s less about supply of replacement batteries and more about the infrastructure, resources & most importantly the cost to replace all the affected batteries over a 4 model year delivery period.
Any batteries they replace only get the remaining warranty period and nothing more so any vehicles that hit 100K miles or 8 years from delivery are no longer any concern for Porsche since these vehicles would no longer have any claim to a warranty replacement.

I do think there will have to be some warranty on replacement batteries themselves. If Porsche replaces a battery that fails in the 7th year and then fails just after 8 years then I’m sure there would be lawsuits against Porsche for installing a defective battery to just get past the warranty period. It would have to be a defective battery if the replacement gave the customer their full range back only to fail less than a year later.
I would expect any dealer would have a minimum 12 month to 24 month warranty on any repairs they do regardless if the battery warranty expired.
They will surely offer some type of warranty when an owner decides to have the full HV battery replaced at the owners cost.
It will be interesting what they will offer. I would expect no more than 2-3 years but if the cost is $30K to $40K then there will be a lot of pressure on them to give at least a 4 year warranty.

I read something recently about a class action lawsuit that has already been filed over the HV batteries.

https://lemonlawexperts.com/porsche-taycan-battery-lawsuit/#:~:text=A class-action lawsuit has,be entitled to significant remedies
Good information, thanks. So far for me with my CPO purchased 16 months ago it’s only spent a total of 6 weeks for warranty repairs but none directly related to the HV battery.
Hopefully my battery is not one with the defect but I have until Jan 2030 to find out since I won’t hit 100K miles before the 8 year warranty expires.
Until then it’s good to keep up on the status of the battery failures and how Porsche is handling them.
As far as I’m concerned I’m most interested in the backward compatibility of any new batteries/upgrades, warranties and the long term cost of replacement at my dealer after 8 years or 100K miles.

I'm more in this boat as well. Have a 2020 with about 60k miles. I think even a pro-rated battery cost and a modern replacement battery with a range or 350+ could be good middle ground for Porsche to pass down stream to it's customers. I feel I've saved a lot fuel cost over the last few year. We use to put about $200 dollars a week in gas into our Lexus LX580 SUV. Wild that the new models coming out are just as or more gas hungry with no improvement in MPG. or KPG.

Same curiosity from me.
What can arbitration win for a separate EVSE that costs at most only about $600 to replace, for which Porsche offered a $600 reimbursement, and then replaced anyway?

In my experience a class action was the wrong approach on this. If it is ever settled then we will get pennies on the dollar and the attorneys will make a killing. This should have been approached like the 991.1 GT3 problems where a group of owners had a dialog and an in-person meeting, with Porsche and came out of it whole.

I'm not doing squat until Porsche has some time to remote monitor my car and propose a solution.

I would totally do that!

ps. I bought a new GX550 (3rd GX in 19 years); 3K miles in the MPG is 12.2. It's like they didn't even try...
