Taking umbrage here. As an American, I recognize that I am sitting in a glass house on a wide range of geo-political issues based purely on where I live. It sucks and I have to accept that….the US is clearly “going through some things right now”. However, I will not stand by any be accused of being a Tesla fan boy on top of every other indignity that we have been forced to endure. It’s just too much.
Let's be clear here, this is not political. The world is not watching the USA 24/7 as there are far more important issues going on in different countries. This is a car forum and I am expressing views as I see them, about some Porsche owners. If that has offended you, I apologise, but get real.

This should be most disconcerting for Tesla. Tesla is selling fewer cars in Europe than before gigafactory opened.

Berlin needs to be scrapped. Austin is 2x the size of Fremont, but producing almost half the units of Fremont. I dont think they did actual full scale tooling for Cybertruck which was a good move.

2 half used factories is the worst news for a car company.

They have enough government support in China to keep that pumping out 1 model for the globe.

I was cross shopping a plaid with the taycan, but with the taycan as a heavy favorite. The taycan’s design philosophy is EV, but fun to drive. The Tesla design philosophy is making the car drive for you (but at least the S was fast and good looking). My 2¢ at least.

Now it’s a taycan for me, unless the AMG-EV thing, EV cayman, or bmw m3 EV knock it out of the park.

All I care about at this point is that this doesn’t discourage prospective EV buyers from buying an EV because one of the biggest EV companies just cut their car options by nearly half. I also hope that companies like Porsche don't think to do the same.

I think most people who have considered a Taycan have considered the Tesla Model S. It pioneered the industry, and is a very competitive alternative as a product alone (setting aside the politics for a minute).
The space, technology, and value for money have been uniquely compelling (until now ... as competition has caught up). And I personally loved how the Model S looked.

Without the Model S, we wouldn't have the Taycan at this point.

As much as I would not buy one now, I still am sad to see this car be discontinued. It's the end of an era.

As someone who likes EVs and sedans, I hope this isn't signaling fewer great EV sedans in the future.

This shift for Tesla to a GPR manufacturer is not new - it has been in the works for at least 4 years.

The new thing is the sacrifice of Tesla Car Production to get Tesla Optimus manufactured - if you understand the market for an effective AI differentiated GPR as a utility labor provider - then you know that is massively bigger market than any EV Market share that tesla could have.

A post from two years ago on the subject.

And FWIW - not a Musk fan in any shape or form - it almost killed me to have to put Starlink in at my inlaws remote home last month .... but the GPR market is a real thing and I am not surprised he is focusing on it giving the transferability of a lot of Tesla assets and technology.

I won’t miss either model too much, as I never seriously considered buying a Tesla—between the numerous reports around 2022 of poor build quality, a noisy Model 3 test drive where I felt every freeway bump, and rides in a friend's two-year-old Model X plagued by rattles and squeaks (he now has a Cybertruck).

Fun Fact: Did y'all know the original desired name for the Model 3 was the Model E? Elon tried to get it but Ford already claimed it. Elon was hoping to spell out SEXY for Model S, Model E, Model X, and Model Y.

The reason to discontinue it is simple. With 30,000 sales (between the S and X) it makes no sense to re-vamp it (original S is from 2012). If sales were good I'm sure they would redesign it.

That’s the reverse of the problem. They didn’t improve it and sales went down. The rest of the line is going the same way. The model S was from 2009?

That is not true, they have updated the car multiple times since debut. Also there are not many stock cars out there with 1000+hp for under 100k. The problem is America just is not in love with EV's. Taycan sales are even worse, There was no model S in 2009.

Updates are not good enough. The Model S prototype was from 2009. VW replaces chassis what every 8 years? Tesla hasn’t had a new chassis yet for any of their cars.

I wonder if they would get more sales if they changed the architecture to 800V, or is that something only nerds think about?

Nah! That's not the answer. I am interested in all threads on a Porsche Taycan forum, just in case someone talks about a Porsche Taycan.
To be fair this thread is in the 'Porsche Taycan versus' section.

Pretty pointless having this section at all if other makes & models can't be discussed.
