Sorry if these potatoes have been boiled before...... I searched - but not much found....

Anyone use a non-Porsche mobile charging cable/unit? The Porsche Mobile Charger Connect is very uncompetitively priced. I know it will be superbly engineered, but are there any risks to the battery from an alternative from a reputable manufacturer? .... Any valid reason not to go 'off-piste'?

If I go for a Taycan CT - I would prolly go 'Porsche' mobile unit - for the sake of the sake of 500 quid or so - but just curious what others have done.

Cheers

I have the Porsche mobile charger, it came with the car.
How many times do you expect to use the mobile charger ?
In other words, not be able to use a public charger ?

Hi - I will use it frequently when I visit my kids (250 miles away ish) - and charge at their houses

In the UK it's a costed option.

But I just noticed it appears twice on the options list in the confuserator - As an accessory at £1,371. It was the £1,371 I was surprised at - but I just saw it also as an option at £767. That is within £200 of competition, so it's a no-brainer to select Porsche.

Can't understand why it's listed twice.

cheers

I've had the Taycan for a year now, with the Mobile Charger Connect, as it was a mandatory option. I've never even taken it out of the bag. I use an Andersen charge at home and public chargers elsewhere. I've only thought of it as an emergency option but never required it. I'm about to switch to the CT and probably won't bother with the mobile unit at £750.

One thing I'd consider is, I think I read here you can use it as a 7kW charger at home if you get a 32A commando socket installed. That way you don't need a separate home charger like an Andersen. Someone else may be able to confirm this.

Yes that is the plan (if I go with Taycan ) - to install a 7kw 32A commando at all our 3 houses (possibly a 3 phase at one since the 3ph supply exists up to the meter) - It's worth it for me to have the car charged ready to go each day that I am with them. Only one 100kw public charger and 2 X 50s within 30 miles at the moment. And we stay with them for a couple of weeks at a time. So it makes sense (to me) to use one mobile at 3 houses. cheers

I have a completely unused Porsche Mobile Charger Connect (still wrapped up!) which I do not require as I already had charging set up at home. Happy to sell it to someone if they message me a sensible offer. Thanks

Selling it now could be an issue when you sell/trade in your car in the future?

I'm trading in and was told they expect the charger to be returned. They also said it's tied to the chassis number.....The recent software update did the charger and the car as part of the recall. Might be a bit risky to sell it.

Yes, I’ve the forced option from last summer (Mobile Charger Connect) and a Wall box smart charger (grant aided installation) at home but a more simple Commando socket at my holiday home .. my distribution board didn’t quite like 32amp so I dialled down to 28/30amp and it governs the charge perfectly just like the Wallbox experience.
I’m told to return my originally supplied Porsche Charger Connect when I trade the car in and my new Turbo will come with the more basic Porsche Charger … hopefully it’s as good a solution for my holiday home ??

Standard 'free' Porsche Mobile Charger Plus is fine for home and portable use.

Porsche Mobile Charger Connect has a few more features and can handle up to 22kW if you have a three phase supply at home and optioned the 22kW AC charger on the car.

Any charger can be used.

Note that these units don't charge the vehicle as that is done by the car they simply manage the electrical supply.

Thanks W - that is very helpful. Thinking about my driving needs, I really have no need for more than 7kw 32A single phase, for home charging. Would upgrade the onboard to 150kw for public. So it's now no longer an issue for me. Great forum BTW.

Hi
Need some help re mobile charger connect.
I have attached the commando socket lead to the charger but despite a factory reset I can’t get it to give me more than 16a despite the device’s hotspot web page saying I should get 32a with no derating factors.
Any ideas?
Grateful for any advice as 3.6kw max is very poor for a ‘premium’ product!

Do you have a dedicated 32A supply from your fuse box to the PMCC? If not then you will be restricted in power supply to the unit.

If you have a 32A supply have you set your PMCC to allow 32A through? Not sure if you can do this via the display or via the web app. Either way check it is set to 32A.

Do you have the right supply cable to the PMCC - it must be rated to 32A.

At best with a 32A supply you will get 7.4kW max which is perfect for overnight charging. To get the full 22kW you'll need a 3 phase supply and the 22kW AC onboard charger in the car.

The issue here is not the device but your supply and cabling or simply the wrong ampage set on the PMCC.

Note that the PMCC doesn't charge the car (the car does that) but regulates and provides a safe means to supply power to the onboard charger.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes the supply is 10mm cable with a 40a rcd.
I can’t find any way of changing the offered amperage neither on the display nor web app.-and this is the crux of the problem.
I’m using the commando plug cable supplied with the PMCC.
My OPC says that my PMCC won’t charge at more than 16a despite it’s web page saying it should supply 32a with no derating factors - the problem is that I can’t find anywhere to change the offered 8-16a in the display menu items nor its web pages.
Does that mean that you can achieve 32 amp charging on a single phase supply?
How did you change the 8-16a menu choice to the max 32a or was it on the app?
Thx
