I have not taken delivery of my Taycan yet and am trying to understand CarPlay operation. I expext I would use carplay more often than not so that I can play music and use Google Maps rather than the standard nav system.

However, if I do use it, does that mean that I will be unable to use the car to direct me to the nearest charging station when needed or is there some form of integration? Related question, will this also mean that the battery does not precondition if I use carplay to navigate to a charger rather than PCM?

Thanks in advance

Yes, U won’t be able to do either of these things while using CarPlay to navigate.

While it won't precondition the battery, using A Better Route Planner to do the navigation during car play will direct you to charge stations in an optimal way. (It obviously isn't communicating with the car's actual status, though, so it can't do quite the job the charge planner can do, and it also can't display the routing information in the driver's display; you may find using the built-in navigation isn't bad, allows waypoints, round trips (so you don't end up with too low a charge at a destination), etc, etc)

the biggest issue that I find with the porsche navigation is that it sometimes offers terrible routings.
on my last trip it tried to have me exit I75, take a spin on local roads and then reenter I75. I use waze routing, on trips the battery is almost always warmed for the charge.

if not setting a charger into the Porsche nav route, can you not manually press the pre heat/cool button about 20mins before getting to a charger?

" exit I75, take a spin on local roads and then reenter I75" --- that is not just a Porsche navigation problem -- I've had my Garmin (old school), Lexus (on two different cars), and Apple Maps do that over the years ---- I just figured it was a predecessor to the current notice that tells me to put both hands on the wheel -- just the electronic nanny thinking I'm not paying attention :)

I thoughtmanual preconditioning of the battery is not possible?

You can use carplay and have the carplay screen visible and still use the Porsche navigation. I put the map on the center part of the dashboard and have carplay(with Flitsmeister visible, a radar warning app) on the PCM screen. Works fine. And at the same time use Spotify via carplay to listen to music

So you use CarPlay navigation and Porsche navigation at the same time? I’d like to be able to use Google maps navigation and traffic while using Porsche Nav to advise on charging and precondition battery

Yes, you can. First enter your destination in the Porsche navigation and let it figure out all necessary stops. Then activate the Porsche map on the center part of your dashboard. Next activate carplay on the PCM. Google maps is one of the car play apps in the carplay settings on my iPhone. So google maps should be one of the icons on the carplay screen.

And you also entered your destination in Google Maps? That’s great. It didn’t work for me when I tried it last year. I could get Waze or Apple Maps to appear, but I couldn’t get the navigation to work.
