Taycan Turbo S track time at Laguna Seca

First time with Taycan at the track, although I’ve driven it for many years in other cars.

Street tires - Eagle F1 - were the main limitation. I didn’t pre-condition the battery and that overheated after about 8 laps of hard driving, so we pulled in a lap early.

A 911GT3 got in my way for a couple of laps…

That car has a lot more in it. I just watched a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N do a 1:39 on street tires. I think he might have been at the same track day as you, lol!

Put the car in sport plus - that preconditions the battery.

You have to be in Sport Plus mode first, then I think there's an option to start preconditioning, or maybe you have to sit at idle in sport plus mode for a while before the session starts? Anyhow I didn't figure it out. I was happy to get 7-8 laps flat out. The 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance that I used to have would do 3-4 laps before overheating and killed its brakes.

Yes, it does, I wasn't pushing it to the limit, especially through turn 1, it gets super light over the crest at 130mph and I was exploring how well the PSC would keep the car under control at the limit. I did an autocross with it last year so had a bit of experience pushing the car, but the limits are so high and at such high speed that you have to approach them carefully... My Lotus Elise S1/VTEC does 1:46 at Laguna Seca on slick tires with a third of the weight and a quarter of the power. More videos of that in my YouTube channel.

Thanks, it's only taken me 20 years to figure it out... the speed on the straights was startling though.

Interesting.
The drivetrain in my M3P in Track Mode never actually overheated and the brakes were mostly fine.
The biggest limiting factor for me was the tires overheating and getting greasy.
It was still fun and much faster (for 7-8 2.1-mile laps) than most everything on the track with me at the time.

Super fun to watch! I must have driven that track for a thousand laps……. In Gran Turismo 2.

It’s also interesting to see all the tire marks from the people running off the track in each turn.

Looks like a lot of fun! I've only run bikes on that track, would love to take the turbo s out! Do they have fast charging facilities on-track so that you can do multiple runs?
