Not sure whether the control unit you were told about is the e-box, which sits on top of the HV battery. Porsche issued a TSB that said: The E-box is part of the high-voltage battery scope. The E-box and high-voltage battery must only be replaced together.Preliminary update.
Porsche Handen have concluded their tests etc, and found that there is a problem with the control unit for charging the main battery. They could not say anything about the health of the cells or the complete battery now, but would ask the technician If he had any data. The Service Advisors at Porsche Handen have been first class. Knowledgable and helpful
Thanks for highlighting this. They did not say e-box but more like control unit ( styrenhet I think they said?)Not sure whether the control unit you were told about is the e-box, which sits on top of the HV battery. I would suggest looking for TI 2706. As I read it, there is (was?) a danger of draining the 12V battery if there is <8A current draw when charging the HV battery. The note mentions that a software fix was expected in 2021, so I would guess that there's a fairly decent chance that the uPdate sorted this out.I was just reminded about some crazy rumours about Taycans not liking to be recharge with less the 7.x kW power [...] But again that was scaremongering I felt at that time, but is there some issues there??
Thanks, I look at that but that revers to the 12 volt battery. And I dig not have any problem this Time with that. It was the main tradition battery that seende Fault. The 12 volt sorken gor some Time intill it got depleted and slut down.I would suggest looking for TI 2706. It was the only mention I recall seeing of the guidance to maintain a minimum charging draw. Thanks, I look at that but that revers to the 12 volt battery.
Yes it is very good that repairs to the batteries can be done. Hopefully the issues were related to a new technology at the start and has improved.Hopefully the damage cleans up okay. Disappointing that more care wasn't taken. Enjoy your "new" Turbo – it has been a journey and a drama.
From a sustainability, maintainability and recycling perspective – it's good to hear that these batteries can be repaired out in the field at the module level.
The labour costs will have to come down though – but perhaps that will happen through third-party service centres. I'm sure a Porsche Centre flat-six engine rebuild isn't cheap either.
Alll-in-all your experience show us that these batteries are not "throw-away" and hints at a better future,
So literally they only warranty the pouches holding the lithium ion chemistry and nothing else? Everything around the actual battery is not covered? That is worse than when Tesla tried charging customers $1,200 each for 2 gaskets which were required to change a warrantied drive unit. So drive unit replacement was covered, but gaskets were not (and they refused to install old gaskets). Tesla backed away from doing this by the way. Perhaps Porsche has more affluent clientele so they think they can get away with it? Out of curiosity, how much of the replacement of the two bad battery modules was not covered? One massive learning from this experience though has been that the Extended Warranty from Porsche was extremely worth the money. According to the warranty terms for the HV Battery that only covers the battery! Not equipment around it.
Sorry, maybe I was not totally clear in my text. All of these costs were covered by my Extended Waranty (which I took out after 2 year standard warranty period. I do not know how they have split this between extended warranty and battery warranty. So literally they only warranty the pouches holding the lithium ion chemistry and nothing else? Thanks for clarifying. I would be curious what the split was between extended and standard warranty cost coverage for this breakdown.Sorry, maybe I was not totally clear in my text. My service adviser just said that the 8 year battery warranty only covered the battery repair, while the extended warranty covered all transports, our repratiation as well as the Control Unit.
In the end I did not have to pay anything at all. Very happy that I was offered Extended warranty!
