According to the manual, the car should lock itself when you walk away with the key. This doesn't seem to be working with my car. At least it doesn't work when the car is in my garage (where it is now). I kind of think I have seen it work some of the time... I'm wondering if it needs to see the key as you reach the "locking distance", and it doesn't see it if I exit the garage and shut the door. Thoughts? I asked my dealer and he thought it should work. Or is there a setting I need to set?
And what if I don't press and hold the start button before leaving the car? Should it still lock?
What if I leave the key in the car?
What I'm nervous about is somehow leaving the car in a state where things are still running enough to run down the 12 volt battery.
My preference would be for it to "turn off" when I leave the car, regardless of what I did with the start button, and regardless of whether or not I left the key in the car. Normally, I don't lock the car when I park it in my garage, and having to press and hold the start button is a little bit of a nuisance. It's probably too much to hope for, but it would be nice if the car detected no passengers and automatically turned off everything after a short delay, after I've left the car. But then locking it if I left with the key would also be nice.
I could answer some of these questions myself through trial and error, but again - I don't want to drain the battery, and it can be hard to tell when the car is "off".
