Just had my GTS for two weeks and i have a cracked windscreen when i got back to my car after leaving it in a pub/restaurant car park for three hours. Heard no stone hitting my car and where the chip is located its on the bottom rubber under the bonnet lip. It seems impossible for a stone to hit the windscreen in that area..

Has anyone else had a windscreen just crack on them ?

I have had a crack spread from a chip, but not if there is no chip to start it. It sounds like something dropped on your car at some point if you can see a chip. Maybe in transport. A crack can then spread out from there

Yes, insurance does not cover dealership labor, they have a provider for windshield replacements. I made sure the new windishield was OEM.

Now dealership will do the recalibration and alignment, safelite still Dont have the sw / equipment for taycans like they do for Teslas.

Was it a manufacturing fault or was yours a stone chip? If no stone chip did Dealer accept it was a manufacturing fault?

My windshield spontaneously cracked while I was parked during the day. The windshield had been replaced 2 weeks prior due to a rock chip. I suspect this long, growing crack was due to expansion from heat (105°F / 40°C ambient, possibly hotter due to direct sunlight). It originated at the A-pillar and spread from the edge of the A-pillar to beyond the centerline of the car.

If it’s just a small chip or crack (around the size of a one pound coin or smaller), have Autoglass repair it (they repaired my Taycan screen). However, if it’s larger, or in a non-repair zone of the windscreen (check the Autoglass website), then definitely don’t use them! I made that mistake with my 911, only to find they don’t fit Porsche glass and needed a visit to Porsche for calibration at a cost of almost £500. A long story, but I don’t pay (Autoglass covered the extra cost).

I think quite a few insurers have a windscreen 'partner' who they require you to use. I think a very large portion of those use autoglass. It could of course fall into the same category as them wanting you to use their own damage repairers, but actually you can use whoever you want.

Anyway, any idea which national glass repairers do use original parts?

On the Autoglass website it will check to see if they are on your insurer’s approved list and will (in theory) manage the process for you. I say in theory as the process was smooth the first time when repairing my Taycan glass, but less so when doing the 911.

In terms of OEM glass, they said at the time that they only had Pilkiington glass in stock and not Porsche and asked did I want to go ahead. I got the impression that they could have ordered OEM glass had I requested, but at that point I had already been waiting 3-4 weeks for the appointment.

Yep, i thought stock or lack of it, except maybe at dealers would make it unworkable. When some total and utter £$%^ smashed my rear windscreen i was amazed (and delighted) that autoglass could fix it the next day. 3 or 4 weeks would have been a nightmare.
