The Webasto is the 10,000-watt heater that has had a spate of failures in Taycans. This results in no heat. But that's my question, does that also mean no battery preconditioning and no heating during charging? Actually my battery will go from 60F to 90F in less than 20 minutes on a DCFC. I'm not convinced that's only due to the battery resistance heating, but maybe.I have no idea what a Webasto is, but batteries always warm naturally during charging
The Webasto is a HV heater for the cabin and battery. The heat pump is something else. It is a option and increases range in cold weather. Then is this electric heater only for the battery or the cabin as well? I'm a bit confused about what the heat pump is doing. Is it in addition?
Any information will be super helpful.
It is activated when the battery temperature falls below 50F while charging, higher level of heating kicks in at -22F.Not clear when "heating the HV battery" condition is activated.
Heat pump allows the Taycan to move/recycle heat more efficiently between components. It consists of few extra valves - see top left "Heat Pump shut-off valves" in the diagram below. For example, it makes your Taycan more efficient by reusing the heat in the winter, rather than radiating it out and then running the heater for more heat. Then is this electric heater only for the battery or the cabin as well? Never ceases to amaze me how much technical information is out there for our car. Here’s a picture of the coolant manifold if anyone wants to match the diagram to the physical parts.Heat pump allows the Taycan to move/recycle heat more efficiently between components. That looks like a US publication - can you confirm what it is? ThanksHeat pump allows the Taycan to move/recycle heat more efficiently between components. DCFC = DC Fast Charging - Either pre-con (en route) or during the actual fast charging session - battery is heated up to around 34-36C (whatever that is in Fahrenheit) before full DC power is allowed to be unleashed.thanks for this!
A couple of questions:
- what does the profile for launch control mean? Launch control, at least mine, is active for only a few seconds, no? Do some Taycans have an always on launch control?
- what does the profile for DCFC mean? Is that the preconditioning profile? I don’t think so. I think it means that when you are on DCFC, the Webasto will augment the battery resistance heating below 50F to help the battery get hot faster?
