so much for attempting to salvage any car from that ship, such a shame, especially for those who were so close to getting their delivered.

My car was on there. I’m sure it was completely incinerated but even if it wasn’t I would not have wanted it. So much potential for damage from smoke, heat, and seawater. I’m glad my “almost first Porsche” is buried at sea. Hopefully this does not become an environmental disaster.

well, at least there isn't any question or ambiguity whether or not the vehicles need to be remanufactured.

For those of you with a car on that ship, my condolences. I remember how excited I was watching my ship (Viking Queen) come to San Diego from Germany. To wait all that time and then lose the vehicle in transit is like a punch to the gut. :(

...an interesting quote from the Fox article:

The cause of the blaze was not determined, but some have suspected it was started in the battery of one of the electric cars onboard.

...leading many of the article's commenters to suggest that everyone should stick with gasoline powered vehicles.

I hope those who’s car was on the boat, you’ll have a new one soon. I’ve heard that production will go first to you. Even gts will get less production due to this.
keep the faith. It’s worth waiting.

For me, it’s a 5 month wait added on top of my original 4 month wait. Not great ?

Hopefully the environmental impact from this can be mitigated, though production and material pollution can not.

Simply a loss/loss for everyone involved.

might make an interesting wreck dive someday. (I'm a diver).

I also feel very bad for those who lost cars on this ship and for any environmental impact caused by its sinking. I do believe, however, that those who did have a vehicle on board will ultimately be happier with a car that had no involvement in a fire or being subjected to fire suppression materials.

Lastly, at the risk of sounding insensitive to those who lost cars, I think that if the vehicles were ultimately salvaged, they would have been dismantled and used to fill the OEM parts bins of VW, Audi, Porsche, etc around the world. The condition of those parts are questionable in my mind as they were subjected to heat and possibly salt water. Think about having those parts installed in your cars.
