No, it clamps metal for stretching. There are two sections that clamp the metal (so they actually come in pairs) and then cylinders that push the clamps apart to stretch the metal beyond its yield point as a form a leveling (I.e. make it flat).

This kept happening to my 5 year old son - I didn't notice he was touching the dimple unintentionally. Worth warning the little ones!

My daughter had her fingers squished by the handles when they decided to retract on their own, or maybe she touched the dimple. She's three and very slender. She was in tear and her finger was red. She complained about it hurting for two days. Crappy design, really, and likely a liability around little kids.

I think it can be disabled. Part of comfort access settings.

With small kids, maybe better to disable it
