This topic may have been covered before, looking for your comments. Also correct me if I am miss calculating.
This is the first time since I have been converted to use EV 7 years ago I have done this calculation. Reason for not doing it as I never paid for charge on Tesla so never knew what it cost to charge.
so here are the figures, these figure didn’t take into account high purchase cost and massive depreciation. Yes there 25% tax advantage and no road tax.

so here we go,
Fuel cost £1.44/litter £6.66/gallon (UK)
Ice car average 33mpg so cost 20p/mile

my data in Taycan

Ave 2.0m/KWH
If I charge at peak hour @ 36p /kwh it cost me 18p/mile to use. Advantage of 2p from Ice ?
If I charge off peak @ 16p/kwh it costs 8p /mile
Now if I had to charge at public or even Pershore charger it costs almost 88p/kwh so 44p/mile this will be a loss of 22p/mile

so it’s cheaper to use Ice on a long distance journey then my Taycan.

am I right ?

I have just done the same calculation for my Taycan compared to my previous I-Pace and My Diesel Van. 2000 miles with the Taycan it was 42.3 quid ( I am on intelligent octopus 8.5p overnight).
27 on my previous I-Pace. 490 on my diesel Van ???.
You should also take into account similar ICE car, V8 petrol with over 500hp more likely 18/20mpg. And not taking into account road Tax . (At least calculation here in UK).
Still make sense electric compared to a similar ice car even on long distances.

I guess it depends what your ice vehicle is but 33 mpg is relatively low gas consumption and similar to a Corolla, Civic etc. A 911 is rated for 18/20 mpg. My own ICE vehicle, a xc90, gets around 21mpg on local highways. Same trip for me on my 4S takes about 2.8mi/kwh.

I can get 36 mpg in my 911 on a 40 mile drive to work.

Still over 26mpg when I’m cruising at 90.

I'm sorry, did y'all get a Porsche EV for the gas savings? Asking because when I told my wife I'll spend $100k+ on a car that will save $100/month in gas, I was met with a blank stare. Poor phrasing on my part?

Charging at Ionity on a long drive in the U.K. costs £ 0.30 so your peak hour charge seems very high?
And comparing to a car that can do 33 mpg is perhaps not right either.

I have done 4000 km over the last 6 weeks, from South of France to Norway and Stockholm.

I have done that trip before Taycan in a BMW M5 which I would comparable car to my Turbo.

That car would at its best do 24 mpg on long trips 12ltr/100 km.

so doing that trip now would cost me 40 x 12 x 2€ =960 Euro

With the Taycan I have added up all my charging cost and that has been 312 Euros
( this has included 2 sessions of free charging in the garage where I park)

So still “”cheaper”” to drive, but I would need to drive a lot to justify the difference in purchase price!

I don’t calculate such things - it is what it is - but I am disappointed.
When I decided to order an EV part of the consideration was the then current low price of electricity making the high initial cost of a battery like buying a lot of energy up front.

By the time it got delivered energy had tripled in price so no longer a consideration. :(

Its cheaper to use the bus for a long journey than either Taycan or IC engined car if that is the concern ;)

If only there were more cheap Ionity @30p - and by that not only more locations in uk but more chargers at those locations. Adding electricity at 84p when I could get it at 30p or 9p overnight at home does make long journeys expensive. That said I won’t give up my gorgeous CT4S. The new Polestar 3 is tempting as a replacement for my suv. But that’s another big expense to sell to the wife?

The way Charging station sell Electricity is to me a bit of con, bit like budget flight where ticket for example is £20 but taxes are amount to £100. The charging station selling KWH at 25p or 30p then charge for 60p+ per minute for using the charger Or if its Tesla they want peak off peak charges and offer you cheaper rate if you pay £10.99 per month membership.

Looking at this I do think Hybrid is not a bad option for a long journey, luckily my other half has a Evoque Hybrid. It give much better Mpg and don't have to charge away from home and you its can recuperate before you hit ULEZ.

As someone said "it is what it is, enjoy what we bought" . I agree with that, however in my case because I had 7 years worth of free charge (accumulated a bad habit )it will take time to get used to it.

I do now believe EV is a scam and we should have choice in the future of ICE, EV or may be Hydrogen.

Does Ionity only charge 30P and not any service charges? if they don't then its cheap for on the go charge.
My analysis are purely to understand and shed some light on this, I do have solar energy at work so in summer I probably charge for free.

I fill my Taycan on off peak 8pkwh so 3p a mile for 90% of my motoring!

These issues are real but worse scenario in the U.K. than elsewhere. Even the Tesla pricing is quite fair on the continent without having to subscribe and pay a monthly fee! 0.45- 0.48 Euro cent except in real peak hours. And NO time based fee. Looks like energy costs in the U.K. have gone through the roof!

You can find the charging costs under account/ Charging Services in the MyPorsche app. And yes both Tesla and Ionity with Porsche Charging service charge only for kWh. Did your dealer not inform you about this
