I’ve had my 2021 Taycan 4S for about 7 months now and the Homelink was always relatively easy to set up with my Liftmaster garage door opener. But because of the squirrely nature of the PCM, I’ve had to reset the PCM to factory settings a few times to iron out anomalies, which obliged me to re-setup the Homelink, which I always managed to do successfully until last week.
What happened this time was that I aimed my working garage door opener at the PCM screen as directed and followed the setup instructions as I had done in the past. However this time the “synchronize” portion of the setup never popped up on the screen; the PCM indicated that everything was hunky-dory and ready to go, except that it wasn’t.
Frustrated after several attempts, repeating the process probably 20 times (definition of insanity?) I repeated the process with a different garage door remote and lo and behold it worked!
So why dear reader did the different remote work? The first remote I used was a generic “compatible” remote that worked perfectly with the Liftmaster garage door opener but was in fact incompatible with the PCM Homelink setup process.
I searched around the house and found a garage door clicker with the word “Liftmaster” printed on it and went through the setup process again for what felt like the 50th time and sure enough, the damn thing worked!
The moral of the story is that to properly set up your Homelink you MUST use the clicker that came with your garage door opener. A generic, compatible clicker will just lead you into the gaping maw of frustration.
