How much you had to pay (or, quoted) to install front and rear cameras? My car is pre-wired and I was quoted for $1740 (just installation!!). To me, it’s ripoff…..I got the dash cam for free (!) when I bought the car.

No bargain but not the ripoff it seems. I optioned the prewiring as my sales advisor said something to the effect of "it's an inexpensive option to have in case you want to install the cameras later". My understanding of what he didn't say is that the prewiring is limited to the fuse panel. No wiring is run to where the front and rear cameras are mounted. So your labor charge is for running wiring from the fuse panel to the front mirror and rear windshield. I have installed a front dash cam (FitCamX) and can tell you that there is no wiring run to the rear view mirror housing to provide power and ground for a dashcam. I'd bet a fair sum that there is no wiring to the rear either. The ripoff is Porsche not disclosing what the prewiring option really is. The configurator lacks any detail on what it encompasses.

If you have the pre-wiring, you can have the Porsche dashcam with rear camera option. Without it you can have the front camera option only.

You are quite correct. I had to go to Tequipment and very carefully look at the difference between ordering a front camera and ordering a front and rear camera package. Including the rear camera states "For vehicles with Porsche dash cam preparation." Wow is this buried. That info should be on the configurator when purchasing the "Preparation for Porsche dashcam (front and rear)". @Machine-Rules wouldn't have been so surprised by the labor cost if he knew that option didn't really involve running the wiring to the cameras.

In the UK the pre-wire was a free option, so there was no reason not to tick the box. I did so not expecting to purchase the camera, but ended up doing so.

IMO, the $130 prewiring is a waste of money, as little as it is. I installed the FitCamX myself and then paid Best Buy $80 to run the rear camera. The front cam is as concealed as any camera could be and $80 to Best Buy was money well spent.

For me it was a €5000 option (which I didn't spec) 😂

Reason? Because I wanted a sculptured metal roof (like @f1eng) and when I tried selecting the dashcam pre wire option, it forced me to select the pano roof! No thank you.

No regrets at all.

Just got an $800 installed quote from my after market specialist for a BlackVue front/rear 4K (DR970X).
