Looks like this would do the same thing:that device is taking power from the ODB port; it allows you to switch between using a permanent vs switched live I believe.

I think that is the SAME thing ??
Here you go mate
Yes this takes power from the OBD port and works both when the car is on and off. Just finished doing a similar install on my daughter's Audi A3 and my BMW M4 this weekend. Snaps into the OBD diagnostic port and then rest is same as any other hardwire without going to the tap into the fuse box or anything. Very efficient. Will see how it works out long term.
Most of the apps let you set a voltage to use for protection of the battery to prevent drain for the dashcam. I have mine set around 12.4v but its each ones preference depending on use. In my prior car, an Audi RS5 Sportback, I also added a thinkware external battery pack in the trunk to power the car when parked for prolonged periods. It charged itself back up when the car was running and then when off ran the dashcam so added additional protection. May do the same with the Taycan especially as I am thinking on doing a professional install due to the fact I have a CT and am not sure how to get the rear camera feed into the trunk loom for the hatch. What voltage level are people using for the discharge protection when hard wiring? Very cautious after hearing all these 12v horror stories for the Taycan.
Just had the Thinkware U1000 with the ivolt battery fitted to the under boot storage area to my CT. Hopefully this removes any 12V issues a dashcam could cause. Decided against getting the rear done.Yes this takes power from the OBD port and works both when the car is on and off. Nice setup, how do you like it? Why did you negate the rear camera? Seems to me like it is part of the whole package and setup with a dash cam. Front protection only doesn't help from the sneak attack from the back!Just had the Thinkware U1000 with the ivolt battery fitted to the under boot storage area to my CT.
