Yes it does start and it depends how much time octopus calculates to reach the desired charge. So as an example if I am at 10% charge and want 85% by 8am when I plug in at 5pm it may charge from then. The great thing is that they only ask me for 7p/kwh at whatever time it charges the car. Alternatively it may start charging and stop after some minutes and wait until later in the evening or night. It all depends on state of charge when I plug in and what octopus calculates. Brilliant!
And that's what it should be doing for me Dave! ?

How does the Zappi know how much charge the car need? Does it somehow communicate with the car?
Zappi has no clue how much charge the car needs - it cannot interrogate the car's state of charge (SOC). Your choice is to integrate Octopus directly with the car, in which case the car tells Octopus the SOC, or you rely on the Zappi integration and tell Octopus, through the app, how much charge you'd like when you plug in (based on the car/battery you specify when setting up). Doing the latter you can limit the total battery charge using the car's profile settings though whatever path you take the car stops charging when its full!

Sure does
Did you configure Intelligent Octopus to talk directly to your car? - or Zappi? Sounds like you have car integration so Octopus will set up timers &/or profiles directly in your car when you plug in. If that's the case then I wasn't aware that Octopus would still control the charging if Zappi was set to Fast. What do you have Direct Charging set to in the Porsche app?

Hi
Yes I'd thought about that but the whole point of OI, i thought, was that it might charge the car at anytime that was suitable to the network but only bill you at off-peak rate regardless? Bonus was the off peak rate for the house between 2330-0530
I’ve been with octopus years, I’ve got the Andersen charger. Only works if you turn intelligent off. Octopus told me this. Doesn’t work with the Porsche. Set as you have to charge 11-30-05-30 and set limit 85% in Porsche app. I do 12k a year and charge up twice a week. Doesn’t cost a tenner. Only benefit from colossal depreciation ?

Direct to car. Profiles set by octopus. No direct charging set in car. Zappi set to fast. All works fine.

This is how OVO Charge Anytime works and does a fantastic job each and every time.

I use my PMCC as the EVSE and OVO does the rest by directly communicating with the car to establish its own profile / timer. Personal Porsche ones remain but are disabled automatically when charging at home.

7p per kW at any time of day to accommodate user defined target charge and ready by within the OVO app.

Logically, the EVSE should be independent of the electric supplier unless there is a forced dependency (OVO not to my knowledge).

I use my Indra pro with OVO charge anytime as opposed to the car. That way the EVSE doesn’t know the state of charge so always starts to charge straight away. I just use the cars general profile to set the charge limit…normally 85% but occasionally a timer set to 100% with a set departure time. Then the car decides when to draw charge from the EVSE. All at 7p/kwh any time of day with no increase in day rate.

I gave up with the Smart Charging as I need to charge both electric cars at home. Its just easier to plug in and then know that it will charge during 11:30 - 5:30 and if I need more or have a long journey planned and its low on charge, I need to plan in advance.

Months ago Octopus sent me this email: Your car doesn’t work with Intelligent Octopus Go anymore.
Customer service told me my pod point and Taycan combo will not work anymore in combination with their cheap tariff.
However 4 months later I am still on the cheap tariff 23:00 5:00 at 7p per kWh.
who knows what was all of this about?

Not sure this will help, but… I had problems with Octopus Intelligent Go (OI) when I had my Taycan set up as a device in my OI App/account.

OI advised delete the Taycan and add the charger unit as a “device”, I have an Ohme charger. That resolved all my problems. Perhaps try? Or raise a request with OI & see what they say?

Good luck!

Did you then have to set a profile in the car?

Not an issue, but after months of faultless charging mine charged to 95% last night rather than the 85% max that was set in IO app?

Mine regularly goes past the stated charge.....

I know when it's going to be an issue, when I wake up in the morning to the Octopus notification on my phone 'we were unable to connect with your device'.

The same used to happen when I used the cars own timers/profiles.

Flagged it at the dealers but no help.
I just live with it now as part of the Taycan trouble free living experience. ?

IO usually works fine for me, but sometimes it’s forgotten my car, and doesn’t set a charge plan, so the car doesn’t get charged on those occasions.

On the few occasions that’s happened, I’ve had to delete the car from the Octopus app and then go through the IO process again (set up car, EVSE, test charge), so maybe try that?
