Another issue with my Taycan, my glass roof has developed a crack, I can't think of any impact that could have happened, so I think it is a fault in the glass, anyone else had an issue, as I can see this being expensive and a big issue with Porsche

Bad luck. I am on my third glass roof! First one was (possibly) caused by a stone chip. To be fair there was an impact mark on the outside so Porsche said not covered by warranty. Thankfully and slightly surprisingly to me at the time it was covered under the glass part of my car insurance and treated like a replacement windscreen so in theory shouldn’t damage no claims (but have yet to receive renewal premium). Was replaced by Autoglass with Porsche spec glass. My second roof developed an internal crack and was replaced under warranty. If you are still under warranty get it in to your Porsche dealership asap to assess it. Porsche are well used to replacing these - I think they have had a lot of problems with manufacturing these roofs. If you have to pay for it yourself if you are outside warranty then I think Porsche charge around £6K. (Note my dealership removed the headlining themselves and brought in a third party to actually change the roof over).

This is a known issue from the over torque of the screws holding the glass in place. My 2022 Taycan 4S CT was delivered with the glass broken and had to be replaced 4 times.
Inform the dealership / Porsche repair shop immediately and don't let them tell you it is not a known problem even after it is repaired.

I had mine crack after a small rock chip.

Repair cost was over $16K.

I wish there was an option to replace the glass roof with a carbon fiber panel since I would rather replace mine if it cracks with a panel which is lighter & won’t crack.
I have installed a semi opaque sun shade which I leave in all the time so having this option would be welcome so I would know it would never crack again. They could actually add solar to the carbon fiber panel as an option which would extend the range on sunny days in Southern California…

Is the defect common across all variants?

I see the OP has a GTS, I was expecting a CT.

Has there been any feedback from Porsche to suggest they've rectified this for new cars?

mine cracked 1 week into my ownership from a stone chip too. I didn't do anything about it, and the crack didn't get worse. It's not on the visible part of the glass. I've decided to keep it damaged until I get another chip and partially bc I don't want to deal with body shops (despite it being Porsche approved), bc shops does not have experience installing these. There are stories of shops over-tightening the rails (on a Turismo) and inducing new cracks as well as chipping the windshield glass causing additional delays in the repair timeline.

Also in the US these are not covered under glass insurance but rather body damage. I'm also hoping I may get a stress crack from my roof rail so Porsche can cover it under warranty.

I had mine done by a Porsche service center and found they also don’t have experience installing these.

Removing the roof broke the rear glass and some interior trim damage happened from workers standing on the interior rails.

I recommend that owners at least put a PPF strip layer on the frontal curved section closest to the windshield. On all other cars with panoramic glass roofs, this section is typically metal, but for the Taycan and other EVs (Tesla, Lucid) it's glass, which is a terrible design. Looks cool but high probability of chips.

That's a good suggestion.

If I didn’t fall in love with the coffee beige metallic color on my 2021 RWD CPO I would never have gotten the glass roof which I actually don’t use nor care about. I installed a black semi opaque sun shade to block 90% of the light immediately after purchase so I hope at some point they offer a metal or carbon fiber replacement of the glass if I ever get a crack. I would not want to replace the glass since it’s useless to me. I have not interest in ever selling my Taycan so I don’t need to care about resale value dropping if the panoramic roof glass had been replaced with a carbon fiber roof panel instead of glass which is just a liability IMO.

I did this at my initial delivery, and after my first road trip I had a chip just past the PPF coverage, lol! thankfully no crack 20K miles later.

I did this with the new XPEL windshield film. They installed it all the way to where the roof breaks and starts curving back down, slightly past where the roof rails start.

Mine had a rock chip that developed into a crack after about a week. My insurance paid for it under comprehensive, except for the deductible. The shop had to replace the windshield, which often cracks as part of the process. Good as new after about a $13,000 bill.
