I know a lot of folk are really attached to their polarized lenses but as we know the vast majority of these glasses won't work well or at all with HUD optics.

I have used GatorZ glasses for as long as I can remember, specifically their Wraptor model, but recently they have developed a polarized lens tech called OPz that allows use of polarized glasses with digital devices (tablets, watches, phones etc). These are not cheap glasses but I went ahead and bought a set of OPz Wraptors and can say that compared to the polarized and non-polarized Wraptors I already own that these are 70% of the way to non-polarized effectiveness with the HUD. They are still NOT as good as non-polarized but by amping up the brightness of the HUD display by +4 to +6 (out of 10), they approach near equality with non-polarized glasses.
EDIT: TO be clear - GatorZ state on their site that the OPz's are "partially polarized glasses" so clearly a compromise but appears to be an effective one.

EDIT: my system was reset at dealership re WNA5 update and hence why I lost the HUD brightness setting - it in fact does appear to be retained on shutdown/power-up.

One annoying thing though is that I believe the car does not seem to retain brightness adjustments of the HUD on shut down - need to research this a bit more (maybe if in Individual mode?), but that would remain a hassle if correct. Personally have always kept a non-polarized set in the car and the polarized for everything else and works for me but not everyone I suspect :)

Here is a link to the OPz glasses on their site:

Can someone confirm for me there is NO entertainment functionality (Advance to next song, volume, audio source change, Apple CarPlay integration , etc etc) visible in the HUD? For me, that's one of the things I'd see most helpful with the HUD, but if it's not there, it's not there...

Doesn't appear in the Porsche simulator for the Taycan so I'd assume 'no'.

It's very limited. Power meter and Nav.

There is a "customizable" menu option and I was told that "maybe" some day we will see greater functionality.

I couldn't find anything on their site about whether they were available with a prescription. If not, they wouldn't work for me.

They do make prescription glasses - link is not obvious but I'll see if I can find and forward - but indeed would need to confirm with them available for the latest OPz's - however prescription ain't cheap - but very sure you are more than aware of this :)

Quick search - here you go - have fr polarized and non-polarized but the OPz are so new they may yet have to update these pages so again I'd ask:

I am intrigued how well they could possibly work as actual polarised glasses if they let light through from other polarised filters.
The whole idea is reducing reflection from horizontal serfaces and the plane of polarisation is designed for that. This gives destructive interference on a lot of device screens which are also polarised to reduce reflection.
Changing the angle of polarisation will surely simply make them less good as polarised sunglasses for normal use, in which case normal tinted sun glasses would still be a better choice, technically.

I use both polarised and tinted depending on requirement. The tinted ones work perfectly with the car, phone and camera screens.

I use Porsche Design VisionDrive XTR glasses and find them excellent with Taycan screens. Even though they are polarised there is absolutely no distortion when viewing the various screens on the Taycan.

These glasses worked great during my recent road-trip in Scandinavia where I was frequently driving against the low winter sun.

I do not have a HUD so unfortunately can't comment on that aspect.

This is the model I use: https://www.porsche-design.com/de/e...sunglasses-p8910/?variationCode=4046901714512

I'm curious how these work since the basic functionality of polarization is inherently incompatible with the reflected light used in a HUD. I'm no expert though and I hope they do work. All that said, the Porsche HUD stinks and is not worth wearing inferior glasses for (not saying these are inferior). If these glasses are any good I would consider picking them up for my BMW as that HUD is lightyears ahead of the Taycan HUD.

Polarised glasses can reduce depth perception and no lenses are equal.

Consider Oakley (Prizm Road) or Serengeti that have specialist lenses for an application (like driving).

Can always ask GatorZ directly :) Agree re you'd speculate there might be some compromise and they do state they are partially polarized lenses - quite familiar re how the physics of polarization works but TBH I have not researched into exactly how the OPz models handle this.

As I mentioned prior to getting a set to test I too used non-polarized in the car which work fine with all screens and the HUD and polarized outside. The OPz's also work well with all (but as aI said better if the HUD's brightness increased slightly).

However a quick and dirty preliminary test of viewing into our local bayou with light reflections off the water surface seemed to suggest that OPz's are still functioning w.r.t. a polarizing filter - would be interesting to do a proper test at various angles etc.

Just don't get all the hate re the HUD in the Porsche - I had HUD's in my last 4 BMW's and agreed in respect optionality it is somewhat better overall but the function of the HUD in the Taycan is perfectly fine and frankly I would not buy the car w/o it in respect being so used to having key info in my line of sight whilst driving minimizing any distracting glances at other screen in the car.

Got mine yesterday, happy to confirm they work, I can actually see the HUD more clearly now!

It was a novelty on my Prius, it was more a heck with those plastic screen type on my MINI. But i was pretty annoyed that the regular dash cannot change to other info or turn off when i already have the Speedometer on the HUD. Now since it kind of block my vision of the road, i turned it off. It is highly likely not on my list of to have on my Taycan order. One i am hugely debating is Active Cruise Control. I think that i should check that box. Will see. I have to rebuild my config for the Cross Turismo anyway. I have the Sedan version the way that i want it already. But when i checked out the 4S again at the dealership, I find that the back may be more suitable with the CT design. Glad that i was able to see a CT at the dealership where i am ordering from few days back. Flaw with it is that only the 21 inch rims looks good. I opened a thread to see if anyone was able to go through snow weather with 4 seasons on 21 inch.
