Hi folks — new to the forums and still just a wannabe. But after being a BMW family for 30 years I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a 4S CT… if we can ever get an allocation.

I live in LA and have begun working with a salesperson at one of the largest Porsche dealers in town. Super lovely guy, I like and trust him, and certainly intend to purchase from him. But the wait for an allocation is oppressive, so I have an etiquette question.

Can I (should I?) blanket multiple dealers and get on everyone’s waiting list, assuming similar ADMs? The prospect makes me a bit uncomfortable, but at the same time it seems like it could provide real advantage. Or should I just suck it up and get comfortable with the reality that — particularly as a first-time Porsche buyer — I’ve got to wait well into next year?

Under normal conditions (without production delays, supply chain craziness etc.), another option would be to ask the SA you like if they are willing to go looking for better allocations to trade.
Dealer A might take (say) a 911 allocation slot and offer that to Dealer B in return for their Taycan allocation.

This is a thing, but not every dealer will do it, some will only do it for established customers. And it’s probably not possible under current circumstances because there are so few allocations not already spoken for through waiting lists. But s**t happens, customers cancel. Maybe worth a try.

if you want the car, there is nothing wrong asking a few dealers if they have allocation.. if you're willing to wait, stay with the guy you like..

I've read on this forum about folks contacting dealers in other states for an allocation. Some out-of-state dealers have the ability to sell you your Taycan as though it took place in your state. You'll have to pay for shipping, though.

Back in January 2022, I was just about to commit to the Porsche dealer in the northeast Phoenix area when their Sales Associate (SA) called me and said his management decided to add $20,000 for additional dealer markup (ADM) to the purchase price because of high demand. I said let me think about it.

I called the Porsche dealer in the southeast Phoenix area. Their SA said there was no markup, they had an allocation available, and their city's sales tax rate was lower. He was astonished at the greed from the NE Phoenix area dealer.

And one more thing - be sure to sign a purchase order for your Taycan when ordering to guarantee the price when you take delivery. A deposit may not lock in the price.

It's worth the wait. Good luck!

+1 on establishing a signed purchase order to mitigate ADM and other shenanigans.

Here’s an old thread of mine that gathered some recommendations (but did not cover out of state purchases).

That is how I got my 992 allocation in July 2020...my dealer just traded a Taycan allocation for my 992S. Took about 2 weeks to do...different times though now. Highly unlikely as both vehicles are in scare supply as far as open allocations. But looking outside of your local area is probably your BEST bet else you will have to just endure the wait.

Must have been Porsche Scottsdale...not surprised. Have purchased two cars from them but that was in 2016....since then clientele and area/location would have dictated such. Was just there last month while passing thru Phoenix and they had some nice vehicles in stock...was surprised at the amount of inventory given nationwide scarcity some dealers are having but pricing was shall I say "interesting!"

Yeah lots of good advice here on the forums...but I do think if you're looking for a Taycan CT4S especially without ADM that ship has likely passed for you at the current time. You may have waited yourself out of the ability to find a decent and quick allocation as Taycan allocations outside of base cars it seems are hard to come by and CT allocations of all sorts are VERY VERY scarce in the US especially. Asked my SA if he had any SA on a GTS ST allocation OR a CT4S back in May and since they he still has seen NOTHING and had no favorable prospects on getting anything in the next 6-8 mos for either...and i got one of their first two 2022 CT4 allocations from them with delivery last Jan 2022. They just have turned into vaporware it seems....current timeframes are like 12-24 mos out....kinda like Lamborghini...Miami dealer has sold ALL new car allocations for the next 36 mos rumor has it. Crazy times...

Yeah, it’s nuts. And to be clear, I’m resigned to a sizable ADM. The bigger problem, as you rightfully point out, is a 4S + CT allocation. They’ve become unicorns. I don’t need the car quickly and will wait 12+ months for one — but I’m eager to accelerate it, if possible.
