Hi,
Haven't driven that route since the pandemic started.
Wondering if anyone had recent experience and had advice.
I am looking for the fast (vs. scenic route) on the way down.
Is it better to leave on a Sunday or Monday morning?
Is there more truck traffic on Monday's and less regular traffic, or is there no big difference?
Thanks

5 south is faster - but charger is more spotty
101 south is slightly slower - but better charging reliability and more scenic

plan your route with ABRP (A Better Router Planner) and then check the reliablity of charging stops ABRP recommends with plug-share - look for recent checkins with positive feedback - don’t be afraid to overrule ABRp’s ”picks” look for alternatives and have a plan “b” for charging if one stop doesn’t work out. Heat is no problem for the Taycan, but some friends recently had trouble charging near bakersfield because all the EA chargers were overheated and non-functional.

put destinations into the Porsche Navigation to get the remaining battery estimate to your destination - and watch this estimate while you drive - start slow and add speed as you get closer to the destination with remaining battery…

it’s an easy trip - it can be done in one charging stop - but two stops - one longer (20-30 min) and one shorter (10 min) make it pretty trival - 3 or more short stops makes the trip very easy but takes slightly longer - don’t worry about topping off - battery charging gets slow the closer to full you get - jsut enough + buffer to get to the next stop “on route”…

going back is the same just in reverse.

I'm making the same journey as my first long road trip on Thursday to go to Carson for my Porsche Experience Center Taycan extravaganza. @daveo4EV ‘s advice is just the kind of real world experience I'm looking for too. Thanks, Dave!

Just finished a journey from LA to SF via I-5 and back via CA-1.
I started the trip as early as possible to avoid traffic. I think weekdays and weekends don't make much difference if you depart at regular times. There will be traffic anyhow somewhere. if you want to avoid truck traffics I would suggest leaving early and not driving nighttime.
