I applaud you for what seems like total calm in a storm. I'm sorry you had to deal with all that.

This might be a stupid question, but how did you push it to the shoulder alone? I've been putting a LOT of miles on my car and I worry about this very thing when driving. I'm a female, I'm big and relatively strong, but used to having MUCH smaller lighter cars. Do you just put it in Neutral and push and then jump in to brake and pray you're not on an uphill or downhill?

Coincidentally, it's at the dealer right now and they're checking/updating everything right now. (They gave me a loaner ICE Macan and I really don't know how anyone drives that thing.)
I opened the window, put in neutral, was pushing the car with one hand, and steering with the other — which is a bit tough without power steering, but I’m a slim and rather not very muscular guy ;)

Opening the frunk when the 12v battery is dead (pre-reqs, being able to open the door and access to another 12v source):

Here is a longer version:

He used a jumper starter to open a frunk, then jump started the car by connecting directly to the battery and the car seems to be still on after he disconnected the cables. I wonder if this would be a quick fix to what happened to me, so that I could jump start it on the highway and drive directly to the dealer.

If the onboard charger fails, the 12V battery dies over time and the car in the end won't start up, but once it is on, it doesn't require a 12V battery?

I wonder if I should buy a jump starter. The tow truck driver also told me never to carry the towing hook in the frunk but in the cabin.
What does the towing hook look like? Should I have one that came with my 2021 Taycan?

That's an EXCELLENT idea, Gino. Thank you for sharing! I live near the mountains, so I'm already searching one up online.
Yes, me too! The folding metal ones are so compact & small they take almost no space in the trunk compartment or under the seat of you can’t get in the trunk or frunk…

I think it's actually called towing lug. It's in your frunk on the left side. Check your car's online manual and search for "Using towing lug".

Ahhh! That makes sense. I’ll have to find it and put it under the seat with the folding wheel chocks I’m going to order on Amazon for $7.99 which I’ve purchased for my other vehicles in the past.

so for clarity, you are all suggesting to move the emergency equipment from the Frunk to the Cabin (I have a Cross Turismo) because if the battery dies opening the frunk without power is impossible unless you have a portable jumper like in the video (that I half watched...sorry, supposed to be working here.)

So the diagnosis is a damaged onboard charger. For now, I'm waiting for a new one, should take 1 week to replace — apparently, there’s an upgraded model and it shouldn’t break again (?). I got a Macan EV loaner - a very nice car.

22kw? Or 11kw?

Curious them mentioning it’s an improved one. Maybe they can give you a report of the work, with the parts number; or the part number for it ?

I have the 22 kW. Yeah, I'm curious to know more about it as well. I'll ask for the report and will share it here. I'll also ask ct14 to rerun the report after some time to see what they entered :D

The small lithium 12V battery is supposed to be constantly topped up by the HV battery, but when the charger blows up it disconnects the contactor.

So the 12V battery dies really fast, because it's very low capacity, as it is designed to be constantly topped up. And then you have no power at all in the car until you connect a booster.

Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt etc.

If this happened again, could you simply start the car using a jump starter like shown in the videos a few posts earlier, and just continue driving? or is the 12V battery necessary while driving? I'm also curious if anyone else has heard about the new version of this onboard charger, or if they just said that to calm me down...

Okay, you got a few things wrong here.

When the charger blows it force disconnects the HV battery contactor. Until you replace the module you will never have any drive power.

Additionally, because the HV battery is now permanently disconnected from the car, the 12V battery that powers all the onboard electronics goes flat really quickly, as that's designed to be constantly powered by the HV battery through a voltage converter and does not have a very high capacity.

Connecting a booster will allow you to re-power the car onboard electronics and put the car in neutral for example, or open the windows, or whatever else you need to do. But it will never give you the drive back because the HV battery is permanently disconnected until the OBC is replaced.

So you're still stuck no matter what.
