Howdy everyone.

My 2023 Taycan lease expired in May and I ended up picking up a custom order 2025 992.2 Carrera S.

Overall, I love the 911 but also miss the ease of use from the Taycan.

Stuff I loved about the Taycan:
1. No break-in period, extremely easy to use for day to day stuff
2. Exceptional design, still the best looking car out there in my opinion
3. Sport sound was futuristic and awesome
4. Passenger screen, while a gimmick, made it feel like a space ship. I also hoped we'd get CarPlay 2/Ultra, as it seemed that's what Porsche was building up to.
5. Driving dynamics
6. I actually really liked the electronic HVAC and vents, added to the minimalism

Stuff I love about the 911:
1. Refueling wherever I want
2. Driving dynamics, while similar to the Taycan, feel slightly tighter and more engaged (my Taycan was a base so maybe the GTS would feel similar)
3. Street credit and pedigree
4. Resale value
5. The rear 3/4 view is stunning

Some quirks with the 992.2 that I hoped Porsche would update but still hasn't figured out:
1. The wireless charger is still ass, it has a cooling vent but if the phone moves during spirited driving, it stops charging
2. Apple Carplay is still garbage and Apple Maps will not show up on the driver display. It shows directions in the porsche UI, but no streaming of the CarPlay Map

Thoughts for the future:
I'm really excited for the second generation Taycan whenever that comes out. I also hope they end up exploring a 2 door version that's more of a grand tourer than the 718 EV.

I also hope we finally get some proper software-first UX by then. I still cannot believe how in 2025 Porsche is terrible at making 1st class UX.

Is that your Taycan in the pictures? They look so professionally done! What a beautiful car. The 992 as well. I found it insightful reading your comparisons.

Both are my actual cars! The Taycan pictures were made by Nick from 4th Right Media. He's a really good automotive photographer.

Interesting that only “slightly tighter and more engaged”? I like to think that my Taycan is sort of close to the 911, but I have no basis for comparison.

You need both…

I’ve come to the same conclusion but I could never part with our 2021 Taycan in the coffee beige metallic paint. I’m likely going to wait until next year to see what Porsche does with the Boxter as well as the next generation Taycan because I’m resigned to use the Taycan for around town but not on long trips and buy an ICE or hybrid Porsche for long trips. I don’t really need both but because I love the way the Taycan drives and it’s stunning beauty that I could never let her go. The 911 has an absolutely gorgeous rearend but the front end leaves me a bit uninspired for me at this point.
I usually only kept one sports car in my garage but with Taycan as a short range sports sedan EV Porsche has created a sub group for me so I still could go for a long range ICE/hybrid sedan not as bulky as the Panama as well as a convertible which could be the new Boxter EV or ICE version or potentially a 911 convertible.
No matter what I get it won’t get driven more than 4K miles per year since we have 4 vehicles for two people who are semi retired. We travel 50-75% of the year, always by air, so we use rental cars far more than our own.
Our cars don’t age in Southern California. At the most they get washed more than they get driven so I don’t get rid of any of my cars except if one gets totaled as my 2000 Boxster did back in 2021 which led me to my Taycan. I loved my Boxster convertible triple black with 21s. It was flawless inside & out with only 41K on it after 20 years but the Taycan has blown me away with its beauty and instant acceleration off the line and at highway speeds. My Boxster was more nimble a slightly more fun to drive but was more of a toy compared to the Taycan.
If I didn’t have an Airstream Sprinter van conversion and an original Hummer H2 I would love to have a Macan or Cayenne hybrid or ICE in my but then I would only drive them maybe 1500 to 2500 miles per year at the most which would be almost worthless since both are too small for my SUV requirements.
If Porsche decided to make an ICE or Hybrid Taycan I would be first in line…

Nice. The refuel wherever is definitely the only reason that i want to get a 911. Of course the way that Taycan owners are treated as non real porsche owner too. But when i bring my Cross Turismo to the posh area in the city, there are always a few 911 there. The cross turismo actually have more presence than the 911. Not only its bigger which makes it feel like a more complete car but given that the design is newer, the 911s are a tad stale in a way. Funny that in the dealership, the 911 beats the Cross Turismo in desirability like 10 to 1.

I am afraid over the last 30 years I have tested whatever the current 911 was and never liked one enough to buy one but I ordered a Taycan after my first drive.
It was the drive and motor response which sold the Taycan to me. The only thing I dislike (hate actually) is the impractical width for English country roads and parking spaces.

Loved my Panamera turbo and current my Taycan Turbo…… never been a 911 fan even though I had a 996 Turbo S for about a year.
I do realize I’m in the minority lol

The thing I was brought up on was a vehicle’s 0-60 and the quarter mile top end but this all became meaningless when I drove out Taycan for the first time.
0–60 is blistering with an EV and who cares about the quarter mile top mile unless your racing? The fact the Taycan is so responsive at any speed regardless if it is off the line or passing someone quickly on the highway at 100mph. The Taycan does these things so effortlessly with zero lag with any ICE vehicle. If you drive a stick you have to do two things to go fast quickly. Rev the motor & pop the clutch. If you have an automatic (god forbid) the lag is quite noticeable compared the Taycan which you only need to do one thing… step on the accelerator.
If I want to work to drive I’d get a 911 but if I want to just drive effortlessly at any speed or acceleration then I go Taycan.
Since I enjoy both types of driving and luckily I can afford both so I will have both. My only problem is I don’t have enough garage spaces for all the cars I want so I have to buy another home for more garage spots.

I agree you with you 100%. The Taycan, especially the Cross Turismo is such an exceptionally well-designed vehicle. It looks exotic and all the proportions are just right.

The 911 front is very... stale to say the least.

It's also weird how everyone in the Porsche enthusiast scene blows their load at any 911, whereas imo, the Taycan is a better overall package.

I also think it feels more nimble, but maybe that's because I didn't break the Taycan in and just floored it everywhere. I'm currently babying the 911.

Here the Taycan is leased as Company car as much as a Tesla, the 911 is considered fun as very few can lease them and even if the budget allows the Company often prohibits. I love my Taycan, but it’s not special.

Yep, I too need both.
Taycan as perfect daily, 911 as perfect fun car.
Waiting to pull the trigger on a 911T convertible.
Beautiful cars you have there.
