Howdy everyone.
My 2023 Taycan lease expired in May and I ended up picking up a custom order 2025 992.2 Carrera S.
Overall, I love the 911 but also miss the ease of use from the Taycan.
Stuff I loved about the Taycan:
1. No break-in period, extremely easy to use for day to day stuff
2. Exceptional design, still the best looking car out there in my opinion
3. Sport sound was futuristic and awesome
4. Passenger screen, while a gimmick, made it feel like a space ship. I also hoped we'd get CarPlay 2/Ultra, as it seemed that's what Porsche was building up to.
5. Driving dynamics
6. I actually really liked the electronic HVAC and vents, added to the minimalism
Stuff I love about the 911:
1. Refueling wherever I want
2. Driving dynamics, while similar to the Taycan, feel slightly tighter and more engaged (my Taycan was a base so maybe the GTS would feel similar)
3. Street credit and pedigree
4. Resale value
5. The rear 3/4 view is stunning
Some quirks with the 992.2 that I hoped Porsche would update but still hasn't figured out:
1. The wireless charger is still ass, it has a cooling vent but if the phone moves during spirited driving, it stops charging
2. Apple Carplay is still garbage and Apple Maps will not show up on the driver display. It shows directions in the porsche UI, but no streaming of the CarPlay Map
Thoughts for the future:
I'm really excited for the second generation Taycan whenever that comes out. I also hope they end up exploring a 2 door version that's more of a grand tourer than the 718 EV.
I also hope we finally get some proper software-first UX by then. I still cannot believe how in 2025 Porsche is terrible at making 1st class UX.
