WTL5 OTA update recieved.

It's nice to see that Porsche still sends out OTA updates to a 6+ year old car so I don't have to visit my dealer.

I wonder if you can tell us what this is generally says in English as I still have small hope that we can get our 11kW charging back at some point that was nuked by a March I call it WTF OTA update but it actually was called WSS4, but they always make it sound like you are getting some nice things, but going from 11kW to 9.6kW is not it!

I installed the update earlier week. It appears to be related to the high-voltage battery control unit.

hi Dee, funny, I got the same WTL5 a few days back - my 1st and only since I got the car in Dec'25 (but I had insisted they re-did a full system update before taking it, to fix Android Auto)

I'm a software engineer myself and Porsche releases to a known update strategy. Software updates are often released gradually instead of to everyone at once. For example, a company might first release an update to 5% of its customers. If everything works as expected, they increase this to 20%, then 50%, and eventually 100%.

The main reason is risk reduction. Even when an update has been thoroughly tested, unexpected problems can appear in real-world use. By starting with a small group, the company can detect problems early. If something goes wrong, only a small number of customers are affected and the rollout can be stopped or fixed before continuing. This is commonly called a gradual rollout or phased rollout.

If only JLR had followed this strategy when they pushed an OTA that bricked all their Defender V8s lol

Some (/most) people got/get their updates at the dealer when serviced.
The ones that haven't been serviced within a certain time frame get them through OTA.
There's also a difference in MY.
That's why I was surprised that I didn't have that software but still got it OTA although the car is more than 6 years old.
