I always thought - at least the European 22 kW version – that this charger was manufactured by Hitachi in Germany.

Be interested if my hunch was right - any sense of the manufacturer of your part?
No manufacturer marks, but says "Made in Ireland". Part number 5QE915684AQ seems the same as an eTron charger.

That's ironic for tigerbalm!

Picture is interesting - as it looks very 'modular' and potentially an easy part to swap.

Is access easy for the part?

I was always told it was relatively easy to replace labour wise – about 4 hours job – with replacement of coolant taking quiet a bit of that time.

I believe this is where its located in the frunk:

All the times I've waited for the part to "come from German warehouse" too!

@whitex One thing to note – if you are cutting it open. I was told by my Porsche Centre – that the part could never come by air – it always had to come via land & sea due to some element of its contents. I don't know why but given the voltages involved – I wonder if there is a pyro fuse inside in it?

Perhaps the European charger is not made in Ireland?

Thanks for the warning. ? You can never be to careful. I will keep this in mind when I get to opening up this beast.

That said, usually the pyro fuse should be in the battery, to blow on excessive current draw (like a short) or maybe even on accident/crash signal as well. Maybe since this part is not very lightweight, air shipping is significantly more expensive than land/sea? Or maybe it contains lithium batteries? I wonder what the reason for restriction is.

@tigerbalm Found a picture of a sticker from a 2019 Taycan European version

Also says "Made in Ireland", so I suspect yours were made there too. Maybe they don't ship replacements from the source, but only from the factory warehouse in Germany. Logistics...

With the part number @whitex has – I've managed to track down the manufacturer to Kostal (https://www.kostal-automobil-elektrik.com/en-gb/). Looks like I was wrong about it being Hitachi.

Good chance that the "KO1" on the sticker indicates this too as the manufacturer.

Does Kostal have a factory in Ireland? Why, yes they do.

In Mallow, Country Cork, Ireland – a relatively small rural town in the south of the country,

Anything special about it for us? Why, yes. My wife/co-driver grew up 5km from this factory!

Signing my order for a new Turbo S tomorrow – so keeping my faith in Taycan – and stepping it up a bit!

Car won't arrive until Jan 2023 – so likely to be a MY23 by then I would think. Not going to add the 22kW option – just been too burnt by it – though I'd really hope a permanent fix would be in place by then.

Keeping my existing car until then.

In terms of colour options – weighing up staying with Neptune Blue and Blackberry/Slate interior or being influenced by @pEAkfrEAk's car and going Crayon with all Blackerry and Crayon deviated stitching.

Those are the fun choices and I honestly don't know which I'll go for yet.

Nice!

Not tempted to go TTSST variant for your adventures?

Thanks!

Not really – I prefer the salon shape – and it helps me pretend I'm driving an electric 911 (I know, I know its not!). With just the two of us – space in the salon is not an issue either.

I was impressed at the number of estate-shaped vehicles in general in northern Norway – instead of the SUV-lite you see everywhere in Ireland now.

You'd think in that environment SUVs would be warranted – but the smart Norwegian's know better.

Now there we might deviate – I lean seatbelts in Blackberry in both choices – though they are probably so dark its not worth it.

I'm trying to imagine bright seat belts and I'm defo not sure yet!

Precisely... that's why I thought you might have been tempted and it would be rarer than a four leaf clover in Ireland!

Does everyone have issues with the 22kw charger or was @tigerbalm simply unlucky? I have it specced on mine (build locked, car not with me yet) and now I am concerned. If all it takes to keep it safe is charging less than 25A on a single phase then I don’t mind. But does that mean less than 25A on 3-phases too? I have a Wallbox charger at home mounted on 3-phases.
