Pirelli vs Michelin - New Tyres Dilemma!

Hello, everyone!
So, my Taycan Turbo has breached the 20.500km (done from august 2020 - august 2022) milestone and it seems that the time has come to change the tyres.
My factory tyres were the Pirelli P Zero PZ4.
Loved those tyres in every way, no problems whatsoever.

I have seen many people mentioning the Michelin Pilot Sport 4(/4S) tyres, as an excellent alternative for the Pirellis.

And the question is this:
Is there anyone that has driven both of those sets on the Taycan for a substantial amount of time, that could compare them in these categories:

Dry:
Wet:
Range:
Comfort:
Noise:
Wear:

Sure, I have seen many reviews on different tyre-reviewing websites, but I would like an input from real TAYCAN owners specifically.

Also, consider that in my country (Greece), the road is extremely slippery due to having marble powder incorporated (to avoid melting in extremely hot weather conditions)in it, thus when it's raining driving here is like skating on ice with Taycan's power. Because of that, performance in WET weather, along with RANGE are the biggest factors for me.

Should I change my tyre brand or stick to the factory standard, considering my needs - Wet performance, Range, Wear (especially when powersliding/drifting)?

Don’t forget to buy the EV line. So if you buy the pilot 4 watch out for the EV letters behind it.

Currently have the Michelin's on the Taycan and don't have any complaints with Noise or Wear. I have had many sets of Pirelli's and more Michelin's. Have both of those now on different cars. From my experience, if you want flat out performance and you don't care about the wear, buy the Pirelli's. If you want great performance but a good wet tire and one that will last, get the Michelin's. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your response, although I only am considering either Pirelli, or Michelin. Do you have any input on these two choices?

I didn't know there was such a thing, especially in 21" size.
What's different?

I am really loving these, whatever they are.

I don't think you will find many owners who have tried both brands on the Taycan, given how recent it is. I have the factory Pirelli P7 Cinturato on my Taycan as summer tyres and they're much better than I expected. So far 14k kms and no issues, even the sporty performance is rather good.

In my prior 911, I had tried the PZero which although they had a good grip they had a life of only 15k kms, and became very noisy towards the end (before the wear indicator indicated need for replacement). They were replaced with Pilot Sport 4S which had nearly 20k kms by the time I sold the car and still had c. 50% life in them. Same story with some Pzero Scorpion something Winter on a Cayenne that were done after 12k kms, versus Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 on the 911 that got some drift action and over 20k kms of life...

My unscientific conclusion is that the Michelins last vastly longer than the Pirellis, with similar grip in the dry, and better grip for the Michelin in the wet/cold, and similar traction on packed snow.

EV line has lower rolling resistance (different compound) and slightly stronger sidewall (which affects comfort but also the reaction time of the tyre). If you have a XL rating on your time the sidewall difference will be minimal

EV option not available in Taycan sizing. (yet?)

Pilot for me hands down. Pirelli's are crappy after they wear past 50%. Pilots have ALWAYS been my choice - I love the ride quality, quietness, handling, wet performance. They are amazing. (991.2, Taycan, 9Y0 Cayenne GTS when it's due)

I have been weighing this for some time. My 21" Pirelli rears are wearing slightly faster than the fronts, and just bought new pair of Pirelli rears before I swap all four out next time for 4 new Michelin PS4s.
I have weighed that the lack of NF0 rating is outweighed by my experience with Michelin better wearing characteristics, lack of noise, performance, etc.
That being said, I must say the Pirellis have worn very evenly on the rear. I'm currently at 14,000 miles, and the tire shop said I have another 7-10,000 miles left. I think that might be a little optimistic, but I have been pleasantly surprised. The rears were kinda hard to find in stock.

You're gonna get all sorts off assho...I mean opinions on this topic. Take them all with a grain of salt and know that there really isn't much of a difference either way. I've run both brands' sport tires for years and neither dramatically outperformed the other. I've had instances of good wear on both and shit wear on both. Mine came with Pirellis, so I'll probably just replace them with the same tires when they wear out, assuming they're available.

Have Pirelli’s on my 21” wheels - Taycan CT 4S; also had other Pirelli tires on various BMW and even on our Mini Cooper S. Have run Michelin Pilot 4S on multiple cars Including last M4 convertible (265-305’s on 19” wheels). I’d agree with almost all comments above comparing them but would also suggest that wear/performance differences might not be as great as perhaps wet weather control and for this reason given your circumstances I’d prob do the Michelins next. Bottomline is that you cant really go wrong hear as it reads like your driving style is not causing excessive wear on your Pirellis which again brings the focus for me back to wet weather performance.

I have reached the same conclusion as you. Having used Pilot Super Sport on my Audi R8 in the past, I was not happy. The wear was much faster than on Pirellis + performance was worse too - both for Dry and wet conditions. The only plus I can give to the Michelins - is the comfort, driving was definitely more comfortable.

I guess, I will just buy the OEM tyres which are the Pirellis, which worked splendidly for me. No need to fix a problem, when there isn’t one.
