Does anyone ever actually use Sport mode?

I do the same. Individual mode , engine in sport mode to have it at first gear. I don’t like the shift when accelerating fast at lower speeds. And it is a bit more responsive. Lowest suspension, which is still 2 cm higher in the CT compared to the sedan. I prefer this for corners. And normal chassis because it is more comfortable. Regen off because I prefer to drive like that.

+1 - we’re a match . This is my setup too although at times use normal mode but the ride height and regen off are fixed.

So after soon two years of being a happy Taycan owner, I've realised that I have never deliberately used Sport mode even once. That made me think, what is actually the purpose of that mode and who actually uses it?

• Range mode is self-explanatory.
• Normal mode is great for everyday driving for smoother acceleration and more efficient driving when you don't care about acceleration.
• Sport Plus is for fun driving.
• Sport ís for what? When you kinda want some performance, but not too much?

Sport is such a weird middle setting with no apparent distinct purpose. What am I missing here?

I use it all the time! I have a 2022 BMW M4 that I drove for 2 years straight before the Taycan. I can’t live without the sport mode lol!!

I have neither sport chrono nor air suspension. My preferred settings are:
Normal driving: Adaptive dampers in Sport and drivetrain in Normal
Sporty driving: Adaptive dampers in Sport+ and drivetrain in Sport

For my tastes, the "useless" setting is dampers and drivetrain both in Normal. Too floaty and isolated.

If I want a quick blatt without being too ‘serious’ then Sports mode works well. The slightly stiffer suspension and the fact it keeps the car in 1st gear for longer make it good when you just want a little bit of a quicker drive without the very stiff ride and slackening off of driver assists that Sports+ gives you

My car never leaves sport dampers though. Normal is just way too soft, unless I’m driving Miss Daisy around.

Hmmm not on the base though. Mine shifts up at 85km/h and down at 55km/h in normal / individual (based on normal)

I agree that sport plus is way too stiff for my roads. Feels like a goat.

I do have to switch into sport if I want to do a LC.

How do you know when it shifts? I have a GTS, so it is always in 2nd in Normal?

I use Sport more than SP actually.
But not using both a lot. They're both pretty extreme.

You have a funny idea of ‘extreme’ - what other cars to you drive (or what was your previous car)?

My Individual mode is set on Sport drive mode & Sport suspension mode, because I find Sport + drive mode & suspension mode not to my taste for my poor quality local roads.

I switch to actual Sport Plus mode when the roads are good and worth ripping in Sport Plus, otherwise Regular Sport mode is just fine for me in most real world situations.

I think this mode behaves differently based on the model. For the RWD it doesnt do much of anything that I can tell (I've already got the shocks set to sport mode) and I'm too lazy to turn it on for a indistinguishable difference. So I don't. When I had a 911S the sport mode was crazy (stiff ride and significant boost to acceleration) and I loved it. I've no complaints however as I didn't buy this car to drive it the way I did my 911.

By sound and feel. You can definitely feel both upshift and downshift. If you turn on sport sound then you can't miss it at all.

Also, if you want your partner to complain, drive up to 90km/h (so it shifts into 2nd) then slow down to 70km/h (to keep the 2nd gear) and then floor the pedal. Car will think "Oh God, he's trying to overtake something and is about to die, let's downshift into 1st and give him all the power we have"... On an RWD it's not that much but enough for a neck jolt and partner to start complaining about middle age crisis kicking in, go-cart comparisons, etc. You have been warned.

Tell me more. Based on this thread, I just switched my individual setting to sport as base and I do notice one advantage: the air suspension doesn't bottom out that easily as in normal mode when going over speed bumps. Now if the slighter lower chassis will make me scrape the bottom, remains to be seen in the next days.

In normal mode upshift occurs at 85km/h and downshift at 55km/h

Will check tomorrow if that changed.

One of thye things which most impressed me when I first drove a Taycan was that it had a supple ride but with excellent body control, the roads around here are terrible.

It was a cross turismo though. In Sport the body control is little better but the ride is markedly worse so Normal is excellent for really pressing on in comfort.

I was impressed overall by the Sport plus setting on the Anglesey circuit which is quite cambered but few bumps.
