I’m really interested in buying a used Porsche Taycan with low mileage. My biggest concern is the number of issues I’ve been reading about with first-generation models, especially stories of owners needing to tow the car to the dealership frequently just to keep it drivable. I understand it may not be the most reliable car, but I’m mainly looking for insight into the typical costs associated with the main issues people are experiencing

What’s the difference between a 2020 and 2021 aren’t they both Gen 1… I’m young and I’m just worried about getting trapped in a money pit

I think you said the magic words that will actually make me recommend you look elsewhere.

Don’t be tempted by the low price of a used high end car if you can’t afford out of pocket repair costs.

If the thought of paying $3,000 to replace the 12v battery will devastate your finances, there are other great used cars to consider.

Yes it’s a great deal used. Yes it’s a great daily driver, but you should never stretch the budget for a depreciating asset like a car.

Im not trying to prove my finance or anything I can afford costly maintenance I’m trying to inform myself on how often

Just make sure that you are getting/buying with extended Porsche warranty.
Without that, I would not buy any model year.
Otherwise, it’s great daily driver 👍

No visible differences but some tech enhancements (PCM) plus early cars were more problematic.

2021 onwards should be fine and if sourced from OPC as it will have all recall and campaign work completed.

Get an HV battery state of health (SoH) report to check degradation. Range is weak on Gen 1 (J1.1) cars and further impaired if the SoH is low.

Service every 2 years (20K miles) £750.

Tyres should last 15K - 20K if driven sensibly.

Extend the warranty as it expires to avoid high cost repairs.

Most people will pay $0/yr in extra costs. Recalls are free too.

Others will pay several thousand for things like batteries and heaters.

You can just also pay the several thousand up front for an extended warranty instead.

The problem with your question is that it’s nearly impossible to answer other than “make sure you can afford it if it breaks.” Also you can look at resale values and get an idea of what the cost of ownership will be based on how old it is and resale values. The depreciation is significantly higher in terms of “cost” vs maintenance and repairs. The first two years of depreciation can “cost” $70,000-80,000 for example.

If you can afford the depreciation costs, I wouldn’t worry about maintenance and repairs.

My 2020 TS is trouble free and recalls always come with a loaner. I love the car and the performance. A bargain imho

Same here...I have an early 2020 4S and have owned it since new without any problems.
Driving 100 miles on back roads in pitch black darkness last night confirmed my feelings about this vehicle...nothing better.

I don’t understand the question unless you are planning to buy one without Porsche approved warranty.

In that case I would say: do you feel lucky?
Well, do ya?

I would not.

Mine is a not quite 3 year old daily driver with 17k miles on it. So far other than recalls the only service has been the 2 year service which was under 1k, don't remember the exact amount. I'm just put on my 2nd set of tires but no other issues/repairs.
