Refuse it, or see if they'll hold on to it until parts are available. Alternatively they would not have built the car at all and you'd be waiting for months. Your choice.
yes we are saying the saying thing. The critical part is the "your choice" which Porsche has not given to all customers.

And I’m just saying that they, like all the other manufacturers, are trying to get cars to customers and manage the pain and inconvenience as much as possible. I suspect they weighed many different options and this was their best. I don’t argue that communication could be better. But some of the conspiracy theories alleged on this thread have been beyond ludicrous.

Mercedes-Benz choose this. They periodically suspend production (right now in HU for 3 weeks) but not release imperfect car (without a function that is base or extra). I would not say it is better or not, just a fact.

For what it's worth, it's unrelated to the supply chain problems. Tesla is moving to a vision-based full-self driving stack and are no longer relying on radar outside of data collection
Not exactly. Tesla is moving to vision only on their lower cost models (model 3 and Y).

On their high end models, the S and X, they still provide radar plus vision.

Seems like a cost cutting measure to goose up the profitability on their low end models.

The question is how safe is vision only. I’ve seen reports of scary auto steer behavior in bad weather in vision only Tesla 3’s. Auto steer is a work in progress and really isn’t ready for prime time yet (I’ve had my fair share of near misses and my Y has radar). Removing one big component which could make auto steer safer is simply a way to increase profits. Otherwise Tesla would have left radar on their low end cars until auto steer was working more reliably.

Come on... I do not buy the car that arrived against my spec. If everything is ok I buy happily.
But this is my way, do not take it personally...
You could always leave it at the dealer until it matches your spec. The contracts do not specify a delivery date. Giving you the car early and getting it fixed later is a good deal, no?

If the dealers were not informed by the manufacturer as early as possible, it is systematic issue.
Do you have an information about that, manufacturer issued a general or car by car statement public, or to the dealers?
Shouldn't you first buy a Taycan and drive it for a few month so you actually know what your are talking about?

This is nothing more than a sales guy handing over the car and made a mistake. All these cars are custom made. No sales guy can remember all the details. Maybe you should stick with your current brand which has no options? ;)

This is an interesting thread with many differing points of view. Can all agree on the following?

1. Someone at the factory decided to install manual steering columns on Taycans ordered with electric steering columns.
This is for sure a high level decision how to best manage the chip shortage due to the pandemic!

Shouldn't you think first than talk?
Sales guys have to deliver cars not by remembering but lists. Especially at this price range.
Your last sentence is your shame, I rather not say where should you stick and for what. ?

In my part of the world contract specifies delivery date as a maximum. And especially specifies the spec of the car that has to arrive with. But this is different story. You just pick up answers from the topic without seeing or understanding the background. What is good for who should be decided by the individual person. It is all about information, not letting people make decision at the delivery but before.

I agree, but why make such big thing out of this? My car was delayed by 4 months and then came without the charger, which was delivered 2-3 weeks later, and I paid over 200k Euros for mine - but who cares?

Do you have proof, that Porsche with it's dealer network is out to cheat customers?

What exactly would you expect Porsche to do? Stop the whole production just because you don't want to get a car which has a feature not perfect?

I do not make it big at all, just shared my personal opinion. Forums are maybe for this mostly.
What I (would) exactly expect if my car would be effected with an issue as missing function: inform me as early as possible before(!) delivery. And apologize. So giving me time to eat it and make decision what to do.
Stopping the whole production or not is in the hand of the management. Not my business.

I do not have a proof for anything. It is not about proofing things but how to handle specific situation.
Missing a charger (equipment) for a while is not equal with missing (function) manual steering column out of electric one.
Although this could be also solved on a nicer way. Dealer could offer you an aftermarket charger up to that you receive the factory one.

I agree with everything you say. :like: But I know how hard the chip shortage has hit the industry. I also know how much I love to drive my Taycan so I couldn't care less about such a missing feature as long as I can get my car earlier so I can drive.

Two months ago my car was in the shop for the software update, but it failed. They had to order new hardware. I asked, if I can drive the car, while they wait for the parts to come. Sure enough I went back the same afternoon to pick up my car. Do I care, that the Navi did not load? Do I care, that the PCM crashed once? Do I care that I had to bring it back a week later? No! There is only one thing I care, having this car to drive it, because it is by far the best I ever had. :involve:

I happily see we may arrived to a kind of common point. That is a good thing, this is why never go personal: "Maybe you should stick with your current brand which has no options"
Maybe my BMW M140i has some options and my ex 911 has also some. Do not blame me because of my Tesla. That is actually wonderful in any way. To be more precise my experiences with the Tesla convinced me to go from ICE to electric with Porsche as well.

I really respect your enthusiasm. Believe me, can't wait to introduce GTS and order it asap.
