Hi All,

So I've got the chance of getting into a Taycan (customers cancelled order) pretty much now.

The car has almost all the spec I chose...

But it has the 22kW On-board AC charger ....
I remember when initially ordering there were issues with this if you were mostly going to be charging on single phase AC 7.4kw ?

Are these issues still present or have they been fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Phew..
Was all that stuff at the start of the year rubbish?
Nope. There have been issues for sure but these have been addressed. Warranty is your failsafe.

Personally I would not bother with the 22kW AC option on cost and usage grounds. If you can home charge then you absolutely 100% don't need it. Always seek to DC charge when on the road - always faster.

I'm probably someone who had the most issues with the 22kW AC charger. Happy now with the latest software update – rock solid.
Super! And there's no restriction to charging at 6kw rather than 7.4kw (I seem to remember something about this).

No restrictions - assuming your car has had the big software update that 'fixed' the problems with the 22kw charger.
As others said, I wish id not bothered and had the 150kw DC charger installed instead. Poor advice/explanation from SA. But i appreciate its not an option in your case.

Thank you. Yeah it's got the 150kw too which is good.

Certainly there are still many problems, if you look at other forums and Taycan groups on Facebook, there are a lot of problems with the Unbard charger.

At the beginning of December there was an on-board network failure on my CS.
12 volt battery almost empty and my car was simply dead.

I was finally allowed to tow it from my garage to a Porsche center.
Costs 6000 euros for repairs outside of warranty, part is not in stock and must come from Germany. Lost car for 3 months and no replacement car because their parking lot is full of taycans that broke down.

In the meantime, a serious complaint was forwarded to Porsche GMBH, 15 minutes later I already had a phone call from them. They take this seriously and will follow up.

unacceptable for such a "premium" brand.

to be continued !!!!

So what happened?
With the 22kw charger? Porsche is not providing those anymore for the facelift j1.2. So likely they aren't the best.

They are still replacing broken one from existing stock. But for example, my dealer advised me against "upgrading" my 2020 from 11kw to 22kw one - which is a pity, as it's the only option to get plug & charge for 2020 models.

I find it useless. 11kw is good enough for home charging and the 22kw has so many defects :( mine just stopped working today and got towed to Porsche…

Given no issues go for it! I don’t think anyone would ever say I wish my car would charge slower!
