Does Macan EV have supercharger access?
according to my dealer "yes" since it's post press release...in 2025 as part of the porsche press release.

we will see - but I'm fairly confident they will come through for Macan's - less confident for Gen1 taycan if two things are true:
  • it requires a software update for CCS1 on board charging software to "identify" the vehicle to Tesla for authorization/business purposes
  • they can't update the gen1 onboard charging hardware effectively
Gen2 Taycan's are also a safe bet in my opinion for supercharger access either via NACS port (later) and adapter ("sooner" 2025 as per public press release).

I haven't paid much attention to Macan EV. Will it have an NACS port or will it need an adapter?

CCS1 port - adapter will be required - earliest I would _ANY_ porsche product to have native NACS port would be 2026 Model year Porsche's - but even that would be optimistic in my opinion - we'll have to see…

Macan was "locked" loaded too early pre-NACS kerfluffle for it to be anything other than CCS1 - but I'm also confident given lessons learned from Taycan they have better softare update abilities and Macan EV is arleady better in two ways vs. Taycan Gen1
  • all new PCM software running on a modern platform and snappy good performance (see Kyle's deep dive video)
  • no 400V/150 Kw "optional booster" - they have a unified charger and it comes from factory able to handle 400V effectively
I think Macan EV has some "lessons learned" from Taycan Gen1 - so I'd be super super surprised if they can't do an adatper...

being Porsche I would also be "unsurprised" if Gen1 Macan EV's don't ever have NACS - and porsche doesn't transition until Gen2 Macan's - because they have to migrate their North American EVSE's to a NACS vehicle charging cable (PMC+/PMCC) - and honestly an adapter is "fine" for supercharger access…

my prediction is: Gen1 Macan's Supercharger access in 2025 w/Adapter - but CCS1 ports - no NACS
Gen2 Macan's will be when we transition to NACS - 4 years - means MY'2028 Macan's will have NACS…

we'll see.

never said "NACS" - I said "supercharger" access...I'm just fine with an adapter.
I suspect you won’t be picking up the Macan EV this year then, if you hold onto this hard requirement. Unless of course your experience with your kids’ Teslas has soften you on buying vapourware features, as long as the manufacturer promises the feature you are satisfied, even if there are no guarantees whatsoever it will be delivered before the car turns into dust. ;)

lack of providing the PMCC/PMC+ along with my trade in would have lowered the trade in price by the cost of replacement
How much would it lower your trade if you had let PCNA confiscate your 240V cables, so essentially downgrading the EVSE to Level 1?

Ford access to Superchargers when recently gives me reason to trust that Tesla will open to Porsche when agreed upon as well.

I think @whitex is suggesting 2024 Macan EVs may not be part of "the plan" - given Porsche's history with software and charging hardware and inflexibility…it's not unreasonable but ultimately too awkward for Porsche to have only part of their fleet of Macan's work with Superchargers
  • it's possible Porsche has some technical issues blocking Gen1 Taycans from ever working via an adapter given's Tesla's requirements to "identify" the vehicle - only Porsche knows for sure, and only Porsche knows if they can (and will) fix it
  • it's a risk that 2024 Macan's will be "covered" under a target date 2025 Press Release
  • Gen2 Taycans could have a similar "split" as Macan's - in that 2024 models might not work and later models could work
ultimately I believe having this sort of arcane no way of really knowing which models will or won't work with North American supercharging is untenable even for Porsche and that once support is official it's a pretty safe bet than models introduced "after" the 2024 Press release will ultimately receive Supercharger access - both the Macan EV and new Taycan were discussed/disclose after the dated press release about NACS/Supercharger access.

but I also understand it's a risk.

I have 100% confidence that @whitex will correct me if I'm not channeling his concerns correctly - mutual respect for the win - ✊

Aah, ok. I will still remain optimistic that all Gen 1 Porsche EVs get access :)

I share your optimism - ultimately I believe it's too embarrassing for Porsche to do otherwise - but ultimately technical issues could surface - that while potentially addressable - would ultimately be thwarted by bean-counting for the cost of "fixing" the technical limitations…only time will tell - but Porsche "already knows" if this can and will happen - but they won't disclose until later date - so we have to wait.

Abandoned by our fearless leader?
I'm going to buy a Model S out of retaliatory spite!

Seriously though, I have greatly appreciated your contributions here, many sincere thanks for that.
(And I have loved my CT, almost 11,000 miles now, even if the CCS1 infrastructure here is so deficient that I've given up on roadtrips.)

Dave if not for your knowledge and experience on this forum, I would not be in a Taycan today! Thank you and look forward to you Macan EV postings.

We'll definitely miss the more active contributions daveo4EV
I too am contemplating either a Gen2 or Macan Turbo. But also itching at a cheap Model 3 Performance that might be out later this year.

Keeping the Gen 1, got X Care extended warranty till 140k miles, so hopefully I can last that long. Already hitting 52k miles and it's only been 2 years. :)

Best of luck @daveo4EV

Keep us posted and a detailed review of the Macan EV please. Us wannabe owners wanna know.

:CWL:

My prediction is all Macan EV's will eventually be able to use the adapters, but not this year, and possibly the first model year might requireat least a dealer visit, if not new hardware like what it takes to enable plug-and-charge in 2020 Taycans.

IMHO, if I was Porsche, I would strongly look into negotiating with Tesla to accept EA plug-and-charge protocol for legacy Porsche cars, OR building and selling an active adapter, one which would authenticate CCS1 Porsche EV's using EA's plug-and-charge and translate to Tesla required protocol-augmentation/authentication. They might have to negotiate with Elon, perhaps even lock the adapter to only work with only one model or even a single VIN. This would allow Porsche to enable any plug-and-play CCS1 car, so a single, independent project development, rather than 3 separate legacy retrofit projects (old Taycan, new Taycan, Macan EV). Independent means lower risk, lower cost. It would give Porsche time to develops native NACS for new Taycan and Macan. Heck they could even outsource this development as it has little to no dependencies on Porsche IP.

@daveo4EV

Thank you so much for everything. I devoured every wall of text you threw up here or on other sites. We get down over the hill to Santa Cruz now and again (will be there in just a couple of weeks, actually), and I've always wanted to tell this to you in person if the stars ever aligned properly.

Both the content of your advice and the comprehensive way in which it was presented were consistently reliable. I always knew that when I came across one of your comments on a particular topic that I was studying, I could reorient everything that I had previously read around your opinion as the proverbial North Star.

Oh no! The forum is losing a great voice, resource and knowledge about everything electric along with most probably a great human being if we knew him personally!

Enjoy the wait for the Macan EV and wishing you all the best @daveo4EV
